Worcester Rotary President Satya Mitra introduced former Lt. Governor and President of the Worcester Chamber of Commerce, Tim Murray to address the club.

Finally - there is NO Meeting this Thursday, Oct 17th.  Instead, please consider attending our glowball event on Friday Evening.

President Satya opened the meeting at 11 AM
 
Present: Satya Mita, Roger Frost,  David Frazier; Bob Mangan, Ron Frazier, Lee Bishop, Frank Doherty and Elaine Doherty.
 
The minutes from the August Board Meeting were reviewed and accepted
They will be posted on the website as will future minutes.
 
A brief Budget Review followed. Funds available:
 
General Account - $14,275
 
Service Account - $20,485
 
Education Fund - $22,161 plus $ 120,042 invested
 
Treasurer Bob Mangan presented a proposed budget for the Club for 2013 - 2014.
 
Satya reminded the Board that the  budget is not rigid and recommended that the Budget be passed as submitted. The budget was accepted.
 
The Club will again take a booth at EXPO on October 2nd. Satya has reserved 2 tables for lunch and  he encouraged  all to attend, and send checks for the $30.00 fee to Bob Mangan. The regular Thursday Rotary meeting will not be held on October 3rd.
 
Ron Frasier suggested we plan to decorate the EXPO booth and include visuals on NicView.
Help will be needed  to set up and tear down the booth, as well as to XXX the booth during the day. . Ron  proposed that members wear blue blazers with Rotary Identification.
 Rotary members who plan to work at our booth should sign up with  Ron Fraser (Fraser@fraserfunding.com)
 
President Satya has committed Worcester Rotary members to march in the Columbus Day Parade on October 13th, from 12:30 to 2:30.  Rotarians  planning to march should arrive at 11:30: Shrewsbury Street near the junction of Belmont.
 
Satya has ordered Rotary polo shirts (with collars)  and T-Shirts for marchers to wear. The cost is $10.00 each.  Members planning to march should let Satya know the size they will require.
 
Plans for the Glo Ball Golf Tournament are going well and those planning to attend should sign up online at the Rotary website. Ken Harling, Chair.
 
The Rotary Leadership Institute being sponsored  by the District on October 26, covers important information on what it means to be a  Rotarian. The cost is $75.00 per person. President Satya abs Past District Governor, Roger Frost urged new members to attend. The Club will pay their registration fee.
 
Ron Fraiser is scheduling an Orientation program for new members.. It will be presented on the 2nd Thursday of each month,  from 11:00 AM to noon., prior to the regular weekly meeting.
Ed Hall has supplied  Ron Fraser some excellent information for new Rotarians.
 
A number of new projects  were cited as activities that the Club could provide support.
 
1. Boys & Girls Club:
 
On October 22nd or 27th, Worcester Rotary members will donate food and prepare it for the children
at the Kids Cafe. For this and similar events, Satya proposed wearing tee shirts to identify Rotarians  working on these projects. He has found an inexpensive source for the tee shirts.
 
2. WCAC  - winter coats for the needy
 
Satya proposed that Rotary contribute to 150 coats at a cost of $10.00 each. He plans to  donate 25 coats personally.
 
3. Audio Journal - Club members commit to reading for the blind on the radio.
 
4. Elm Park - It's historic the historic foot bridge is crumbling and must be replaced.
 
Satya would like to see Rotary get involved and hold a fundraiser to support the effort  of Replicating the Elm Park Bridge. 
A dedication  would be March 12, 2014, the 102 nd anniversary of our Rotary Club.
 
The new bridge will be  dedicated  in honor of Myra Hiatt Craft, the late wife of Bob Craft, owner of the Patriots. .
Satya has gotten a commitment from the city manager center  that the DCU would be available at no cost  for our fundraiser. The manager is certain that Mr. Craft would attend and be the guest speaker at the fundraiser,  and Tom Brady might also attend.
 
Our goal would be to raise enough money with the fundraiser to donate $50,000  to the Elm Park fund, and also have funds to support other charities such as our local firefighters  and many other community projects .
 
The Board voted  unanimously to proceed with the plan for the fundraiser in support if the Elm Park project.
 
The meeting was adjourned at 12:06 PM.
