The Rotary Rising Youth Leadership Award winners for March, Zoe Hughes of Wayland and Arno Ohlenbusch of Weston, impressed Rotarians and guests with the variety and depth of their commitments to service.

Hughes shared that her “approach to community engagement is to contribute what I can in as many different ways as possible instead of focusing deeply in one area. Whenever opportunities are presented to me to get involved and to further learn about our world, I say ‘Yes,’ and that has taken me farther than I ever imagined.”

Ohlenbusch, conversely, has volunteered in three sectors. He is an accomplished pianist who has won five competitions and performed at Carnegie Hall. Dorida Stambolla, a refugee camp coordinator in Albania, nominated Ohlenbusch, writing, “Arno spent most of his summer volunteering at Syrian refugee camps in Greece and Albania. He wanted to bring the gift of music to Syrian kids at the camps. He played for them and taught the kids music.
