Hands-on volunteering. Bring gloves and tools, especially clippers. Dress appropriately for pulling invasives. Light refreshments will be on hand. Please pull in down Land Sake's driveway to the parking area and walk back to the field. Please don't park on Crescent Street.
Adoption is challenging work. We've adopted the Sears Field and started reclaiming it from extensive invasive plants. On Saturday, October 23, all are invited to join us to clear more and more, release some energy on the bad plants, and meet some nice people. See more info about the project, parking at the Melone Homestead to reach the field, and sign up to volunteer here.
Update October 17, 2021--The Rotary Club of Weston & Wayland’s conservation team is making huge strides in their work to clear Weston’s Sears Field of invasive plant species. Work began in June, with volunteers wielding clippers, chain saws, hoes, rakes, and all manner of other gardening tools to remove the invasive plants that have covered almost 75% of the field’s perimeter.
The team aims to finish the work by next summer when they will replant native flora to create a pollinator paradise. Hopefully, the project will preserve the field’s natural environment for generations to come!
