Bob led the welcome song.
NEXT WEEK (2/28/17): What do we want to do as a club? Bring your ideas for the types of project and service you’d like to participate in with our club.
Joke of the Day
A very well told joke by Kathy. It won’t work as well in print so I will not attempt to retell it.
Presidential Moment – Paul Dumouchel
Paul shared two significant moments in presidential history that happened today
2/21/72 Nixon’s historic trip to China
2/21/75 Nixon’s AG John Mitchell and Chief of Staff H.R. Haldeman were convicted for their roles in Watergate.
Announcements:
- Gift of Life – two kids from Panama (Angel and Jon Carlos). It was hard getting them here, and the surgeries were delayed, and one surgery was much more complicated than expected, and it looked like they’d miss their window to go home. But… Both are doing great and they both went home as scheduled on 2/17.
- What do we want to do as a club? That’s the discussion we’ll be having at our club assembly next Tuesday 2/28/17. Regular time and place (12pm at the Sheraton). Bring your feedback (the good, the bad, and the ugly), and your ideas so we can keep our board from getting bored.
- Did I say “board?” The next board meeting is Wednesday 5pm at Ryan’s. The discussion is sure to be lively and everyone is welcome to attend.
- RYLA: we are sending two sophomores to the program in June. One has been chosen. Ken is working on identifying the other.
- Meet the Rotary International President and President Elect. RI President John Germ will be at the 4 district conference 4/28/17 to 4/30/17 in Providence. RI President Elect Ian Riseley will be speaking Thursday 3/9/17 at the PETS dinner. Even if you are not coming to PETS you can come to the dinner. Contact Ted for registration information.
Happy $$$:
Roz, Bob, Paul, Brad: Happy to be here. Andy: Skiing and trip to NYC with kids. Bill: Patriots (hasn’t fully expressed his joy yet, nice championship shirt!) and daughter Ellen has graduated and is home. Kathy: great mystery ride with grandkids. Ken: for our guests. Scott: for the warm week (NOT!!!). Jim: for Satya and Brad. Tom: Red Sox! Spring Training!
50:50: Karen had number 275 and drew the 9 of clubs, which is not the Joker, so the $405 pot rolls over to next week. Good luck everyone!
Guest Speaker:
Satya Mitra.
Our AG, Chair of the District Membership Committee, and, bear with me here, the chair of the Endowments and Major Gifts subcommittee of the District Rotary Foundation Committee.
Membership Workshops will take place in 4 locations so you can choose the one closest to you. Round table format. Membership is so important for strong clubs, encourages clubs to be represented at these workshops.
Million Dollar Dinner
In one year getting 100 people to donate $10,000 to the Rotary Foundation. Donations can be by check, Bequest, or $277/month for 3 years. Already have $880,000 raised. Dinner is set for 5/25. Contact Satya if you know anyone who wants to be part of this momentous event because it’s the 100th year of the Rotary foundation and no district has ever put together a million dollar dinner in one year before. Great work Satya!
REMEMBER:
2/21 CLUB ASSEMBLY bring your feedback (good, bad, and ugly) and your ideas
