Reality Fair: The Reality Fair was held at Needham High School on Thursday the 25th. There were four sessions, with lots of students. 'Reality' got pretty real for the student who spun the wheel and 'won' a DUI conviction. She does not look like a 'Happy Camper' as the cuffs are placed on her:
More pictures to follow next week.
Humor: Louise had 2 quick jokes from her book.
Guest Speaker: Aline Kaplan, a Docent with ‘Boston By Foot, told us about the history and current activities of this walking tour service of Boston. Founded in 1976 by Polly Flansburgh of Boston. They had 2 tours in 1976 serving 316 visitors and have grown to where in 2016 they had 100 different tours, served 15,000 visitors with 200 volunteer tour leaders. Tours are designed to run 90 minutes, rain or shine, and are held from April through November (with an occasional snow storm mixed in).
Titles of this year’s tours range from ‘The History of Beacon Hill’ to ‘The Dark Side of Boston’, and includes a series of ‘Architectural Cruises’.
Aline detailed that a tour leader must pass a series of tests, and be able to deliver their presentation without notes! To prepare for the ‘final’ exam, they must be able to deliver a presentation on one of 10 buildings, which they learn which one on the day of the final.
Wanting to play ‘stump the stars’ Aline fielded several specific questions about the architecture in Boston, and she had all the answers!
Aline gave us a tip that tickets are $13.00 on line and $15.00 by phone. Thanks Aline!
Below are several web site reference she provided us:
www.bostonbyfoot.com The web site of ‘Boston By Foot’
wwww.aknextphase.com Aline’s personal web site
www.backbayhomes.com Web site which details all the details of all the buildings in the Back Bay. Most detailed, she says it is worth a look.
Word has it that the Social committee is going to organize a ‘field trip’ on one of the tours for the club this summer.
Next meeting: Tuesday, May 30, 2016 at 12:00 at Needham Sheraton
