Exciting News! The Rotary Club of Needham's board has voted to take on a project to honor the memory of late Rotarian Raghav Rao, who lost his battle with cancer in January, 2023. Raghav and his wife Champaka were our partners for installing the solar array on the school in India back in 2016. Raghav had is sights set on a much more ambitious project to expand the school so the students could get a full-day education instead of going in two shifts for only a half-day. He had dedicated himself to this project, and his fellow Rotarians, friends and family are determined to complete it in his memory.
We will have a zoom meeting Thursday April 13th at 6pm to explain the project. All are welcome. To join us, here is the zoom info:

A background
In 2013, the Rotary Club of Jubilee Hills (RCJH) adopted the Film Nagar Durga Bhavani primary school and the Film Nagar high school, the government funded and operated school system located in Film Nagar, Hyderabad.
The ask
Currently, Film Nagar school students are receiving only 3.5 hours of education rather than the 6 hours mandated by the Indian government’s Right to Education Act.
After years of effort on the part of RCJH, district government officials have finally approved the construction project required to address this glaring deficit, but without allocating the funds necessary to do so. You can help Film Nagar’s students by donating to this important cause.
Project details
Current size of the school: 1500 students, in 19 classrooms, 3 staff rooms, 1 computer room and 1 lab
Additional capacity required:
Construction type approved by the Department of Education, Govt. of Telangana:
Pre-fabricated structure to save on time, since the entire project needs to be completed during the 2 month summer holidays (April-May 2023) and due to lack of space to store construction materials.
Fundraising Goal: 1 crore (approximately 120,000 dollars)
Deadline: May 15, 2023
Project cost breakup:
10 lakhs per classroom x 10 classrooms (approximately $12,000 each)
Consider donating a classroom dedicated to the memory of a loved one – RCJH and the school would be happy to honor that dedication with a plaque in the classroom!
