Relay for Life of Littleton is coming to the Russell Street Elementary School on Friday, May 20th starting at 6:00 pm and continuing throughout the night until the following morning at 6:00 am.  Littleton’s Relay For Life event is a service project of Littleton High School’s Humanitarian Club.  This year, twenty-two teams with 125 participants have signed up and so far have raised over $10,000 to fight cancer. Relay For Life teams will camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around the track.  Because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times.

One of the highlights of the evening is the Luminara Ceremony in which luminaria candles are lit to honor loved ones who have passed or are fighting the disease.

The Littleton Rotary Club will once again be sponsoring the Littleton Relay for Life dinner.  At last week’s meeting, American Cancer Society staffer Katy Nowoswiat and three outstanding members of the Littleton High School student body dined with the Rotarians and were guest speakers.  Sujith Naapa Ramesh and Katarina Fiorentino, both juniors, were joined by Satish Pokuri, a senior. Each student leader spoke of how Relay for Life has affected them and how they have witnessed the fight against cancer, which has claimed so many lives but which is being gradually conquered.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement is the world's largest and most impactful fundraising event to end cancer with over four million participants and 6,000 events worldwide. It unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all. With the support of thousands of volunteers and sponsors, the American Cancer Society is helping save more than 500 lives a day.

All Littleton citizens are invited to participate and take action against a disease that has taken too much!  You can contact Katy Nowoswiat@cancer.org or go to http://relay.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLCY16NE?fr_id=75659&pg=entry to sign up.
