Our speaker today was Amy Pessoa, Administration &
Marketing Director for Carmel Terrace, (a long time
association with Rotary, specifically the Westford and
Lowell clubs) discussed the variety of senior living
options available:
(a) In-home Care: non-skilled companionship or skilled care
for bathing, dressing, taking meds – generally an LPN or
RN
(b) Independent Assisted Living: amenities; no daily care needs,
carefree living
(c) Assisted Living (carefree); help with activities of daily life
(d) Assisted Living with Care: managing chronic conditions like
diabetes & dementia; visiting NP, podiatrist & other
providers; visiting skilled nursing; special programs
(e) Skilled Care: governed by state regs; hospital-like;
furnishings provided
Often, a facility has all of the above, and a resident moves
from one to the other as he/she ages and has increased
needs.
