Brookline, Massachusetts

Food Packaging Service Project

In November, members of Rotary District 7910, of which Brookline Rotary is a part, gathered at the Solomon Pond Mall to assist Stop Hunger Now to package life saving meals for people in developing countries that are starving.
Stop Hunger Now is an international hunger relief non-profit organization that coordinates the packaging and distribution of food and other life-saving aid to people in developing nations. Founded in 1998, it has mobilized over 500,000 volunteers to send more than 224,000,000 meals to 71 countries.   The assembly process combines ricesoydehydrated vegetables and a flavoring mix formulated by Heinz Micronutrient Campaign that includes 23 essential vitamins and minerals. Each meal costs 29 cents. The food has a shelf-life of two years.  Approximately a dozen clubs in Rotary District 7910 were represented including Brookline Rotary to package over 1000 meals in 3 hours.
