On Thursday evening, August 25, at 5:30 pm Brookline Rotary will meet at the VFW Post at 386 Washington St, Brookline, MA 02445 for a group service project.  Pizza will be served to the volunteers. We will pack backpacks with school supplies for low-income children. This is a project we have done for many years.  The backpacks are distributed through Steps to Success (STS) and through the Eastern Service Workers Association (ESWA).

This meeting is in-person only.  There will not be any zoom access provided.

This project is chaired by Dr. Karen Jacobs, professor of Occupational Therapy at Boston College.  She and her team have chosen backpacks appropriate for young people carrying books to school on their smaller frames.  Supplies have been funded through donations of goods and money gathered by Rotarians and associated local businesses.

Steps to Success is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote equity for students from low-income families in Brookline by expanding their horizons, building upon their skills, and supporting their educational journey in order to maximize their life choices. https://www.stepstosuccessbrookline.org/

Established in 1977, Eastern Service Workers Association (ESWA) is a free and voluntary membership association run by and for Boston's service workers, temporary, domestic and other low-income workers and their families. Through the self-help efforts of our association members and community volunteers, ESWA has organized a year-round, 11-point Membership Benefit Program to help meet the immediate needs of our families while we organize together to fight for long-term solutions to poverty conditions caused by lack of living wages. Membership benefits include emergency food, clothing, preventive medical care and non-emergency dental care, legal advice and more. http://eswaboston.org/
