Announcements

Leland Home

Chrisine Battista Keane asked me to share the following.

The Board of Managers for The Leland Home announced today the anticipated closure of the facility on November 20, 2020.  The 38-bed rest home is licensed as a Level IV residential care facility by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and is managed by Deaconess Abundant Life Communities, a Massachusetts-based non-profit organization serving New England seniors for 130 years.

Since being founded in 1879, The Leland Home has served thousands of seniors and hundreds since its affiliation with Deaconess Abundant Life Communities.  “The Leland Home has been an important and valued provider of care and services to the Waltham Community for more than a century.  Unfortunately, the obstacles of an aging facility, changing consumer preference and challenging economics have led to this decision,” said Christopher Sintros, President and CEO of Deaconess Abundant Life Communities.  “We are pursuing multiple options that will allow the not for profit Leland Mission to continue in the Waltham community.”

The Leland Team will work closely with residents and their families in finding appropriate placement for each resident and supporting them with the transition.  “Our leadership and Boards have grappled with alternatives for a long time before making this very difficult decision,” said Christine Battisti Keane, Executive Director of The Leland Home.   “We are committed to do our best to make this transition a smooth one for each resident, family member, staff member, and the Waltham community.”

“Our staff is our greatest resource,” continued Battisti Keane. “It is our hope and intention for our staff to continue here throughout the transition, and to then consider a position within the Deaconess home care division or one of the other Deaconess communities nearby.  We are proud of the devotion that our staff shows our residents and are proud of the compassionate care we provide.”

We look forward to continuing to embrace the not for profit Leland Mission for years to come.
We all wish Christine and the Leland Home the best in this time of transition.
Have a great week, Rotarians! We hope to see you Wednesday at noon.
