Healthy Waltham Food Distribution

Thursday, September 10, 2020 2:15 pm
Thursday, September 24, 2020 2:15 pm

We need your help! Our club has committed to delivering to the short list of residents who cannot pick up their distribution.

We meet in the St. Mary's parking lot (enter from Pond St). Last time we had two boxes for each of seventeen deliveries. The boxes are heavy, and we recommend going in pairs. We need three teams because it is difficult to fit all the boxes in one car.

The deliveries go quickly because you can leave the food even if no one answers the door.

Announcements

Service Project: Waltham Boys & Girls Club

We had a wonderful masked and distant meet up at the B&GC. Many hands made light work so we were able to sort out all the bags in about ten minutes.
Then it was off to Chesterbrook and Prospect Hill to distribute the bags.

Shout outs to Betty, Bob C., Bob M., Connie, Ken, Lisa, and Tammi. With Erica on scene to coordinate it all, that's probably the most Waltham Rotarians that have been in the same place at the same time since March 11, 2020.

District Governor Diana Nestorova Visit

We had a wonderful visit this week from our district governor and Assistant District Governor Arnie Miller.

Diana challenged us to try new things to make meetings work well for all members. Some ideas she floated:

  • Move one lunch meeting per month to the evening to make it easier for those who cannot attend at noon.
  • If meeting in person, make it a hybrid meeting so all members may attend.
  • Reach out to other clubs to learn what is working for them and to consider joint service projects.

Diana also urged us to reach out to Ron Faczenda to explore visioning for our strategic planning.

RYLA 2021

Because this year’s RYLA was cancelled last year after sophomores had been chosen, the district has decided clubs may opt to send some or all of this year’s selections to next year’s RYLA instead of choosing new sophomores.
However, the total number of students we can send remains fixed.

50th Annual Opportunities for Inclusion Harvest Breakfast

What a bummer this anniversary year celebration has to move online. No date or details yet.

Dictionaries

Waltham Public Schools suggested we hold off on the dictionaries until next semester.

Welcome Lts. Emmanuel and Stephanie Villegas

We were able to meet Emmanuel and Stephanie at our last meeting. They shared information about the Salvation Army backpack drive.

Waltham Rotary Opinionation Night

We're forming a committee to plan an October event. I hope you can help.

We'll send a separate email around.
