President-elect (2012-13) Jo Ann Ross of Rotary E-Club of London Centenary has been awarded a sapphire for her PHF by Rotary Club of Borrowdale Brooke in Zimbabwe.  Jo  Ann was favoured as a Paul Harris Fellow with sapphire for her work as a fund co-ordinator for the Nkulumane Clinic in Bulawayo, the country’s second largest city.

Jo Ann, a former member of the Zimbabwe club and now living in London, introduced the clinic’s urgent need for external support to the members of the E-club. The E-club responded favourably and made the Nkulumane Clinic its major project for 2 consecutive years . A District Grant was made available which helped considerably.

The award was presented to Jo Ann by President Phil Mlambo of RC Borrowdale Brooke at the occasion of the club’s 9th birthday, which also was the club’s Christmas party.

“First and extremely well deserved”, as Jo Ann puts it, was a PHF awarded to Past President Rod Beadon of Borrowdale Brooke by President Mlambo.

Rod has “worked tirelessly making many visits to Bulawayo at his own expense to get solar heating and lighting for the maternity ward, who daily suffered major electricity cuts endangering the lives of both mothers and babies.”
