SPEAKER – Brian Gallagher, president of Data Management, Inc. (DMI) on New Britain Avenue, told us about his company’s branding process that led to the firm changing its name to THRESHOLD – Visitor Management Systems.

He explained that the company was founded in 1961 as an accounting records keeper. Through the years it kept adding products – check printing, gift certificates, labels for the medical industry, medical records, and creators of a visitors’ pass system, particularly for schools.

However, he said, they finally came to realize that few people knew was Data Management did. The name didn’t connect with its products, especially the visitors’ pass security system, which is 90 percent of what the company does. So they hired a branding company and went through a complex process that involved all the company employees. The end result was THRESHOLD.

Legally, it’s still Data Management, Inc., doing business as THRESHOLD – Visitor Management Systems. The new tagline for the company is, “Gateway to Stronger Security.”
