By-Law Amendment for South Tyler Rotary Foundation Vote A Note from Tom DeWitt
The foundation committee, consisting of a quorum of the STRF Board and appointed representatives of the general membership voted unanimously to recommend the following amendment to the by-laws of the STRF foundation to modify the allocation of earnings and fundraising retained or distributed.
The Board of the South Tyler Rotary Foundation voted on 10/15/19 to approve submitting these changes to the membership at a meeting to be called by Club President Jeff Johnston after a unanimous vote of the STR Board. This vote will be held during our regular meeting on December 2, 2019.
These changes are to recognize that since we have reached the stated goal of having $250,000 in our foundation corpus, that we can increase our funds available for grants and scholarships and maintain the corpus and its buying power going forward.

"Distribution of Unrestricted Funds - The unrestricted funds of the Foundation shall be distributed in furtherance of the purpose of the Foundation as determined by the board of directors. The maximum funds allowed to be spent from the Foundation for the South Tyler Rotary Club’s calendar year shall be up to 75% of the net proceeds of South Tyler Rotary Foundation fund raisers held between July 1 and June 30 of the prior year.This formula will be used to determine the amount of funds available to the incoming board of July 1."

" Corpus Goal – When the annual operating corpus of the Foundation reaches $250,000, the board of directors may choose to change the formula for distribution of funds raised in the prior year. The corpus will continue to be invested and all of the earnings shall be retained to continue the growth of the Foundation. "
Current by-laws require adoption by a 2/3 vote of the membership of STR present at a called meeting requiring 30 days notification by publication in the newsletter, mail, fax or email. You received this notification by email on 10.24.19 and again in this bulletin.
Membership and Foundation Seminar will be held on November 2, 2019 at First Christian Church of Tyler, 4202 South Broadway Avenue, Tyler, Texas 75701. The church is located on the NE Corner of South Broadway and Loop 323. Registration will start at 8:30 a.m. and sessions will begin at 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The cost of the training is $15.00 per person and will include a light breakfast, Chick-fil-A lunch, and seminar materials. The dress will be Rotary casual. Registration deadline is October 31st by 5:00 p.m.
All Rotarians are invited, with special emphasis on Club Officers, Club Membership and Foundation Committee members.
The sessions promote membership attractions, flexibility, and innovation, along with sessions on ways to support the Rotary Foundation and International Service.
Growing up, I always knew I would be a teacher, so I became a teacher in 1996. I was in education for 13 years and loved it. Life happened, plans change...so in 2008 I became the Co-Owner of Woody’s Accessories & Off-Road. I was thrown into a world that I knew nothing about, but had to learn or sink; so I learned more about truck parts than I ever dreamed I would know. My next adventure was to be the owner of Kona Ice, the best shaved ice you will ever eat! Now, I am on life adventure number four, outside sales for Datamax, a business technology company. Once again, I never dreamed I would know or understand anything about networks, firewalls or the cloud, but I learned.
However, my number one and greatest life adventure is being a Mom to my two beautiful kiddos, Jerrod (23 years old) and Jaycie (20 year). Jerrod lives in Round Rock and is in sales for Cintas. Jaycie is in her junior year at UT Tyler, with plans to go on to Physical Therapy school. These two people are my pride and joy.
Our favorite family tradition is our Christmas day dive. We decided a few years ago that we would rather spend our money making memories together than on things we don’t need. And life really is better under the sea!

Barbara Bass, CPA is an officer with Gollob Morgan Peddy – Certified Public Accountants, a large local Tyler firm and has over 40 years of experience. Her practice focus is on tax planning and accounting needs for small businesses and their owners, including business and personal income tax preparation.
Barbara served as the Mayor of Tyler from May 2008 until May 2014, when she termed out. Her service through the Great Recession encompassed innovative and collaborative community initiatives, which poised Tyler for its future growth.
Since moving to Tyler after graduating from Texas A&M Commerce, Barbara has served as President of the East Texas Chapter of CPAs and on the Texas Society of CPAs Board of Director. She has also served on and chaired numerous community boards, including the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce, Tyler Economic Development Council, Hospice of East Texas and many more. Barbara was the T. B. Butler Award recipient in 2017 when she was honored as Tyler’s Most Outstanding Citizen.
Barbara’s newest endeavor has been to become a licensed auctioneer, which she is using to help local non-profits who include live auctions as part of their fundraising events.
