October was a busy month for our club. I’m grateful for members Von Johnson and Carol Conover for leading our Polio Plus event and Volunteer Night at the East Texas Food Bank. We heard from a fantastic line up of speakers, including Tom Mullins and Don Proudfoot, arranged by John Hart. Our Real Estate Round Table included members Art Mullan, Amanda Folmar, Jerry Terry, Cary Byrd, Randy Marshall, Chris McLarry and Johnny Ortiz. And, thank you to our members who donated canned food, who dined out for Polio Plus and our volunteers at the Food Bank and Polio Plus events.
We have some great programs lined up for you in November, including Phil Burks from Genesis, David Stein from Office Pride and Hospitality Health ER. At our November 30 meeting, we will distribute grants to local non-profits from our 2020 No Dinner Spaghetti Dinner.
November is also the month where we celebrate Thanksgiving. For most of us that includes spending time with family and friends, eating way too much (causing us to weigh too much), watching football or even shopping. And, we give thanks for those things in our lives that matter. I give thanks for many things, but today I want to give thanks to you, our members. We are stronger and better as a club because of each of you. Thank you for being a part of our club!

CHRISTMAS PARADE
SAVE THE DATE! We’re changing things up this year with the Christmas Parade. Our event is scheduled on Saturday (yes, SATURDAY) December 5 in the morning. Instead of a traditional parade where people line the streets to watch the floats go by we are hosting a Drive Thru Parade. The floats will be stationary and attendees will drive through the parade route.
The one thing that does NOT change is the need for volunteers! We need you, your families and friends to help us at the Parade. We’ll pass around sign up sheets at the next few meetings. If you cannot attend the meetings, please sign up by emailing Jen Katz.
NOVEMBER IS ROTARY FOUNDATION MONTH
Rotary International highlights the month to emphasize the importance and need for Rotarian support of the Rotary Foundation. Our goal is to raise $10,000 for The Rotary Foundation and another $2500 for Polio Plus. With 100 members, that is $125 per member. I challenge each of you to consider supporting the Rotary Foundation. See Tom DeWitt for more information.
You can donate via check or credit card at our meetings. To donate online and receive club credit, set up an account on https://my.rotary.org/en/ using the email address from which you receive STR communications. Once registered, click the “donate” button.
FYI, by the numbers:
$698 in giving to The Rotary Foundation
$583 in giving to Polio Plus (does not include October’s fundraiser)
129 reported Wild Polio Virus cases (52 in Afghanistan; 77 in Pakistan)
