Nicholas Pet Haven Cat Litter and Newspaper Drive At our meeting on Monday, January 13th, South Tyler Rotary will be awarding a small grant to Nicholas Pet Haven. Like so many other animal rescue agencies in Smith County, Nicholas Pet Haven has significant expenses related to the care of animals. Our grant will be just a small drop in the bucket for them but is very much appreciated.
Many of you are animal advocates and support our local animal rescue agencies throughout the year. Several of you have adopted and fostered rescue animals in the past. The grant committee agreed that we would invite the membership of South Tyler Rotary to show additional support of Nicholas Pet Haven with a cat litter and newspaper drive at Monday's meeting. Please bring your used newspapers to donate to the shelter and/or a bag or box of cat litter.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT Bob Westbrook
Bob and his wife of 47 years, Cindy, have two grown children and six grandchildren (God's gift for not killing your kids). He is a retired, 20 year, CiCi's Pizza franchisee, owning/operating two stores in Tyler and one store in Longview.
Bob served his industry as a Past-President of the Texas Restaurant Association and his community on various Boards and Commissions, most notably as Past-Chairman of the Northeast Texas Public Health District, Past-Chairman of the East Texas Food Bank and as a Past-Chairman of the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce.
He currently serves as Tyler City Councilman for District 5 and is seeking the Smith County Commissioner Precinct 3 seat on the March 3, 2020 Ballot.
Bob's "Service Above Self" culture drives his desire to, "be the change you want to see in the world."
Bob is an avid boater and traveler. He and Cindy will travel to the Holy Land in the spring.

J.B. was continuously elected Sheriff of Smith County Texas from 1976 to 2012 making him one of the longest serving sheriffs in Texas history. He was elected by his peers to serve as President of the Sheriffs Association of Texas 2002-2003. J.B. retired on January 1st, 2013.
He managed a department of 350 personnel and over 1000 prisoners.
He is a graduate of The University of Texas at Tyler with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of the National FBI Academy.
As sheriff for over 3 decades he was responsible for the investigation of 146 murder cases, hundreds of sexual assaults, child molestations, aggravated assaults and countless burglaries and thefts. When you add numerous family violence cases involving children it can cause depression in the strongest of men including him.
To compensate for the everyday trauma, the sheriff started looking for positive things that produce humor. That attitude adjustment evolved over 20 years into a “Laughter is Lawful” program that has been presented hundreds of times from New York to L.A. He is booked by speaker bureaus from Boston MA, Tulsa OK, and Texas.
