POLIO ERADICATION
Exciting news this week in the fight to eradicate polio. On August 25, 2020, after four years without a single case of wild polio, the African region has been certified free of wild poliovirus. Decades of extraordinary investment has paid off.
There's still work to be done. Currently, 102 WPV1 cases exist: 37 in Afghanistan and 65 in Pakistan. We're this close!
2020 GRANT APPLICATIONS DEADLINE
South Tyler Rotary is now accepting grant applications from the proceeds of our 2020 Reed Franklin “No Dinner” Spaghetti Dinner. Kevin Vest became the fifth athletic director in the history of Tyler Junior College in August of 2019. At Tyler Junior College, he oversees the operations of the twelve-sport department which has claimed 62 national championships, second-most in NJCAA history.
Vest previously served as athletic director at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, Illinois school from 2016 to 2019 and was prior to that was the sports coordinator and head baseball coach for six years at Rock Valley College in Rock Valley, Illinois.
During his time at Rock Valley, he also served as an associate scout for the Philadelphia Phillies and as the bench coach for the Rockford Riverhawks of the Frontier League. Vest started his career in coaching as soon as his playing career ended, serving as an assistant at Illinois College and Knox College before being named the head coach at MacMurray College. He also spent time as an assistant at Springfield College.
Vest earned his Bachelor of Arts in physical education from Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois, and his Master of Arts in organizational management from Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa.
Vest is a member of the executive committee of the National Alliance of Two-Year Athletic Administrators, a member of the National Association of College Director or Athletics, and the former men’s regional director of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA Region IV).
Vest and his wife Alicia, a registered nurse in surgery at UT Health, have a twelve-year old daughter, Macey, and reside in Tyler.
