Detective Miller is currently assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division, Youth Crimes / Gang Intelligence Unit of the Tyler Police Department as an investigator and Gang Intelligence Officer. Detective Miller holds a Master Peace Officer Certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.  He has been employed as a peace officer for the past twenty-eight years and has attended numerous schools and seminars regarding the investigation of criminal offenses and criminal street gangs.

Detective Miller has testified as a gang expert in Federal Court and was the lead case investigator in a joint gang investigation with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 2003.

Detective Miller has testified as a gang expert in numerous cases in the 241st, 114th , 7th District Courts and County Court #3 and #2.

Detective Miller has conducted gang investigation training for the United States Attorney General’s Office, Texas State Attorney General’s Office, University of Texas at Tyler, Tyler Junior College, the Texas Gang Investigators Association, Smith County Juvenile Services as well as the Tyler Police Department.

Detective Miller also has additional duties as an employee of the Tyler Police Department. He has been a member of the Tyler Police Department’s SWAT team for twenty-five years, he is a firearms and use of force instructor.
