Adam Colby, Tyler Police - Card Skimmers

Adam Colby began working for the Tyler Police Department in 2007 and is currently assigned as the Detective Sergeant over the Financial Crimes Unit.  He has over sixteen years of law enforcement experience in two states. Prior to starting with Tyler PD, he was an officer for the state of Maryland. He began his law enforcement career with the Maryland Transportation Authority Police in Baltimore. While working for the state of Maryland he worked assignments as a Highway Patrol Officer, a Field Training Officer, and as a member of the SWAT Team. He was also temporarily assigned to work as part of the Baltimore Joint Terrorism Task Force conducting counter terrorism investigations. He participated in numerous joint investigations with multiple federal agencies. As a member of the SWAT team he was routinely deployed for diplomatic protection, working with other agencies to protect Congressman, Senators, Presidential Cabinet Members, Supreme Court Justices, and even the President and Vice President of the United States while they travelled in and though Maryland.

Sergeant Colby moved to Texas and started as a Patrol Officer with Tyler PD in 2007. He was selected as a Property Crimes Detective in 2009. As a property Crimes Detective he broke up numerous Burglary and Theft rings, writing hundreds of arrest warrants and helping to convict numerous offenders. He participated in numerous investigations with other Tyler PD and Smith County investigative units assisting with Forgeries, Frauds,  Assaults, and Homicides. He promoted to Sergeant in March of 2012 and was assigned to patrol. He was chosen as the Detective Sergeant over the Financial Crimes Unit in January of 2017. In this role he has helped to target transnational organized crime as part of the North Texas Financial Crimes Task Force. He has been decorated numerous times and is also a certified TCOLE Instructor.

Sergeant Colby has a BA in American History with a minor in criminology. Between Texas and Maryland he has hundreds of arrests and thousands of hours of Law Enforcement related training. Sergeant Colby also served in the United States Army with twelve years of service between active and reserve duty. He was deplopyed to Iraq in 2004 as part of a special operations unit and participated in over one hundred combat missions.
