… And we had a busy August even with no meeting on the 30th for Labor Day.
In the past month,
- We got to hear from District Governor Jeff Johnston during his visit as he told us about the great things we do as a club and relayed his goals for the year.
- We inducted four new members. If you see Karen Holt, Dakota Hoover, Alison Little, or Tim Smith, please make them feel welcome.
- We saw a new plaque honoring the funding the club gave to Martin House CAC for its interview room. (Photo above)
- Our Interact Club at Pine Tree had its first meeting of the Rotary Year.
- Chicks N Chaps had its Boss of the Toss fundraiser at Maude Cobb.
- We have had some great speakers and a fun trip to the Longview Mall, where President-Elect gave us an update on what’s happening there. (Photo inset)
- The club’s Board met on Aug. 24 and voted to increase the number of RYLA spots we request from six to nine.
And as of that Board meeting, the club — that’s all of YOU — had already donated enough to the Rotary Foundation to SURPASS our goal for the year. We will have to create a new goal. What an accomplishment!! Our goal was $6,000. The membership had contributed $6,297 as of August 24. Way to go!
We also have some exciting things ahead. The temperature is going to cool down, but our club isn't!
Club member Pine Tree ISD Superintendent Steve Clugston will give us a great program Sept. 6. His program aligns with the Rotary theme for the months of "Basic Education & Literacy." We have a couple of service opportunities coming up:
- Friday, Sept. 13, at Heartisans in the afternoon
- Saturday, Sept. 13, at 8 a.m. we'll meet at Pine Tree High School (in the parking lot off Fairmont Street) for our third quarter street cleanup.
