Fines - Total raised in fines this week was a mere $55! Siobhan was happy about her weekend trip to the beach with her college friends! James took his son Jack to LeMoyne! Lori shared a feel good story about a womany she met that told her her granddaughter was a child we hosted for Coats for Kids and it was a turning point for her! Kevin shared that EPAC has a show coming up with the theme of The 80's! Tickets will be offered at a discount for Rotarians! Teri Mahonski (a “visitor”) shared that she recently became a GLAMma! Ted was just happy to be here. Mitch was happy that his youngest got his permit! Ted & Ike recently had birthdays and were notably fined for adding another year!
This week’s speaker was the relatively new Executive Director for the YWCA in Binghamton, Alanna Shaikh.She is also a Rotarian – Binghamton Noon club that meets just steps away from her office!Prior to joining YWCA, she worked overseas running programs for women & children, so she came to the organization with a TON of experience!Alanna shared that the main programs that the YWCA center mostly around housing.There are 4 housing sites, they provide emergency shelters in a few locations in our region, apartments with support and wrap-around services as well. There is a 4-star childcare center located in their downtown location offering slots to 48 children ranging in age from infant to 8 years old! AND, we have had presenter in the past form their EncorePlus program – providing cancer prevention / detection outreach.They have 83 employees – Alanna referred to as a “team of special people”.Donor contributions go mainly to support the childcare program, hosing – as grants from NYS cover only “bare bones” & the women’s health program – EncorePlus.Future goals for the organization:Adding more housing sites; The Coppens Intergenerational Campus–the building is paid for, need is for additional $2MM for childcare component; Develop school age programs for girls.
