Community Service-
Aaron M. spoke about the Riverbank cleanup scheduled for Sat. Oct 16th and encouraged everyone to email him with their willingness to help.  The project did take place and was attended by six Rotarians and some of their children.  We picked up litter on the riverbank at Castle Gardens Park ( including such interesting items as a swimming pool and a baby walker!) and also along the Choconut Creek area off Front Street.
Aaron also mentioned that we are unable to attend the monthly Willow Point Wine and Cheese parties in person ( due to COVID)- but that the club is planning on helping monthly with various projects at the home including sending pizzas to their Halloween party in Oct., writing personal notes to the residents in Nov., and the annual Christmas gifts for residents in Dec.
The club is launching a new grant program for community service organizations. Vestal  Rotarians will be able to nominate non- profit groups who serve Vestal residents.  A nomination form will be available soon.
One grant per month will be voted on by the Community Service Committee.
World Polio Day-
Ted W.  is selling pumpkins in his front yard again this year to benefit the Polio Plus campaign of Rotary International. It's self-serve and cost is $5.00 per pumpkin.  He has raised $275 of his $500 goal so far.
Vestal Rotary Foundation-
Carol B. announced this year's annual food drive will start after Thanksgiving and all members will be assigned to a team.  We are not collecting cans for distribution (due to COVID) but we will be collecting monetary donations.  The money will pay for gift cards to Aldi, and to Famous Footwear. We will be needing members to assist with the in-person distribution of the gift cards to area residents in mid December, because we don't want to mail them.  Please contact Carol to volunteer.
Art P. is chair in charge of speakers and he has members assigned to each month.  He has sent an email to members with available slots, so if you have a speaker suggestion, you can contact the member assigned to fill the slot.
Calling all members-
Julie C. is looking for assistance with producing the Vigilant. Please email her if you are willing to volunteer.
The club needs a new historian now and a new treasurer beginning July 1st.  Please contact Bill S. if you are willing to assist.
Member Relations-
Well wishes go out to Dr Ed B. who had back surgery recently and is in Good Shepherd Fairview Home in rehab.  The surgery was a success and Ed is doing well.  He is hoping to be up and around and back at Rotary soon!  He sends his thanks for the lovely flower arrangement.
