Our speaker was Rich Heffner, Vestal Town Assessor! He shared that his reason for relocating to the Greater Binghamton Area was FAMILY!He has 2 kids under 2 years old!His position is an appointed position in NY rather than an elected position in PA, so NEW YORK won out! He has 5 years prior experience in an assessor type of business. In addition to valuing property, assessors have other responsibilities – inspect new construction, approve & track property tax exemptions, review real estate sale data for accuracy to name a few.Rich shared that he expects to have all property in Vestal reviewed within 5 years with a fair & equitable valuation for each property – residential as well as commercial!A LOT of questions came up after his presentation including topics such as where info can be found on valuation, difference between insurance replacement vs assessment values, assessments vs taxes etc.It was VERY informative!
Our next meeting will be held at MHAST for a tour of their new facility on August 10th.You should have received an invite w/ a RSVP required so they get the right amount of food for those planning to attend!DO NOT GO TO CALI GRILL ON MONDAY – AUGUST 10TH – THEY ARE CLOSED THAT DAY!
