Dear Rotarians,

As I come in as your new president, I think you will agree that this past year has been a banner year for Endicott Rotary!  The 100th Anniversary celebrations and events, community projects, Dick’s Open, BU concessions, taking care of our U-E families, bringing in new members, and other miscellaneous programs and activities have certainly made us proud! I would like to thank all who have participated in these in some way.  Special thanks, (and pat on the back), to Pat Nally for his leadership and service as president during this past busy year.

Much appreciation to the following who are leaving our board of directors: Tom Latini, Bob Utter, Mike Sopchak, and Mike Grosso.  Welcome to our new board members:  Dottie Keuhl, Sue Bachman, Dennis Sweeney, and Sam Lupo.

As we embark into the 2022-23 year, I propose Endicott Rotary to pursue the following goals and projects:
  • Restoration of the George F. Johnson monument, Endicott’s founder (more on this in next month’s newsletter)
  • Challenge our members to bring in new members
  • Continue to support past and future community projects and programs
  • Greater visibility and awareness of our club in our area
  • Promote camaraderie and participation of our members
  • Finally, doing it all with lots of fun and good times
I encourage you to re-energize yourself within Rotary…what more can you do and what more can Rotary do for you?  Working together we can continue to accomplish so much.

I look forward to serving you as president for the 2nd time around.  I’ll work to make Endicott Rotary the best it can be and make you proud of my leadership.  Let us have another banner year serving the Greater Endicott Community!

Sincerely,
Mario A. Salati
President

Endicott Rotary Foundation

I can’t believe this Rotary Year has ended. It has just flown by. It has been a very busy year for our Foundation. We approved several grants to well-deserving non-profit organizations; granted scholarships to UE students; funded Christmas boxes for 100 local families; purchased/planted three American Heritage Trees continuing a project started last Rotary year; donated funds to Rotary International Foundation’s fund for Ukraine and funded the historic band organ to be used in our local carousels in honor of our Club’s 100th Anniversary.

We were fortunate that BU Basketball and Dick’s Open resumed, and we were asked to work BU Baseball. These major fundraisers added additional dollars to our coffers. All of these things could not have been accomplished without the hard work and dedication of our whole Club. My thanks go out to all of you.

The Foundation’s other major accomplishment was the adoption of grant-making guidelines and setting a distribution percentage for the maximum annual distribution.
I’d like to thank the Foundation Board for its help and dedication during my tenure as President, and now it is time to turn the Foundation reins over to Tom Latini. I have every confidence the Foundation will continue to thrive during Tom’s tenure as President.

Tom Latini, Endicott Rotary Foundation President

As I start my tenure as Foundation President, I would like to thank Betty for guiding us through the last year of many accomplishments. We worked very hard to streamline and adopt the 3%/35% method of distribution. Over the next year we will set guidelines of giving in regard to the Rotary pillars of action, i.e. education, international, local, etc.

The foundation will continue to be transparent under my leadership. I will give monthly updates through our newsletter and plan on updating the club in person quarterly at our luncheon meetings.

The Foundation is made up of the last 5 Endicott Rotary Presidents. I will be joined by Doug, Gay, Bill and Pat. If you have any questions, please reach out to one of us. We will be happy to answer any questions.

Thank you,
Tom

A Year in Review for Endicott Rotary

Darlene Leonard, Club Secretary, planned a spectacular program highlighting Pat Nally's presidency and leadership as well as the 21/22 Club Accomplishments, Programs and Service Projects.

The passing of the gavel ceremony from 21/22 President Pat Nally to 22/23 President Mario Salati took place as well. We thank Pat for his leadership and look forward to Mario's year ahead.

A very special thank you to all of the club members who presented at the meeting. We are very fortunate to have such a diverse group of people with many talents that make the Endicott Rotary Club so successful.

Pictures to follow next month.

We have officially kicked off the fundraising for the George F. Johnson Memorial project. Mario Salati, Jenn Kazmark, Assistant Superintendent of UE Schools and Brian Steele received the club's first grant today from Gault Auto Group’s “Gault Gives Back” program. We happily accepted the $500 grant for this project.

Thank you Gault Auto!

The Dick's Sporting Goods Open will be played at Endicott's En-Joie Golf Course from August 15-21, 2022. Endicott Rotary will once again volunteer in the main concession tent under the direction of Tom Latini. The response from our club has truly been overwhelming. In record time every time slot has been filled, a true testament to our club's dedication and comradery. ~ Thank you! ~

There are opportunities to volunteer in other areas of the open, Dave Baker is looking for Marshalls, if you would like to volunteer as a Marshall, please contact Dave.  ~ Service Above Self ~

Endicott Rotary helps local Boy Scout
John Larter collect retired American Flags
A note from John

I want to thank the Endicott Rotary for collecting 22 flags for my Eagle Scout project. Overall, I was able to collect and retire 751 flags for the retirement ceremony. I would also like to thank the Rotarians who came to support me at this event, (Mrs. Leonard, Mr. Karedes, Mr. Baker and Mr. Steele).

The next step in the process is going to the Board of Review where they will interview me. This is a panel of three people comprised from the Boy Scout Council office.

Again, I appreciate all of your support.

Thank you, John

Two Endicott Rotarians earn their second Paul Harris Fellow awards.

Carl Speicher and Stephan Wasylko both earned their second Paul Harris Fellow awards. The Paul Harris Fellow program recognizes individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.

The honor was established in 1957 to show appreciation for contributions that support our Annual Fund, PolioPlus, or an approved Foundation grant.

If you would like to start contributing to your Paul Harris Fellowship, please talk to Darlene Leonard. Currently the club matches your contribution, therefore your out-of-pocket contribution is $500.
