Can you believe we have already completed the first month of the new year? Although not totally over the finish line for this season at BU Concessions, I would like to congratulate our whole team for doing an outstanding job. Thanks to all who worked, supported, and organized our BU Concessions. In a few weeks we can take a big breath, relax a bit, and reenergize ourselves for our next venture. Yes, we will be doing the baseball season at BU, but it’ll be shorter and less intensive work on our part…look for the sign-up schedule in the near future.
Also, please remember that the 2nd meeting of the month is an evening gathering…our next is Thursday, February 9th at 5:30PM.
Thank you to Kim Potter and team for their work on the slate of board members and president elects. I’m looking forward to working with them, as we embark on a new Rotary year in July.
For giving us only 28 days, February has a lot to offer. Did you know that the month has…Black History month, Groundhog Day, National Pizza Day, Presidents Day, Valentine’s Day, Susan B. Anthony Day, Cheery Pie Day, Mardi Gras, Be Humble Day, Randoms Act of Kindness Week, National Tooth Fairy Day, and even No Brainer Day, to name a few! Of Course, we know that February is known as the “Love” month. Maybe it’s also a month of reflection and we should consider having a “to do” list…may I suggest:
Edit your new year resolutions
Say “I love you” to yourself
Give a loved one or close friend the warmest hug
Treat yourself on Valentine’s Day
Do some random acts of kindness
Pat a Rotarian on the back for his/her service to others
February can be like life itself…”short and sweet!”
This month we presented a $2,500 check to Cory Jacobs from the UHS Foundation that will go towards the expansion of UHS Hospital. The total of $5,000 was pledged to UHS with the second check being donated after July 1, 2023.
This week I received a request for a donation from the U-E SADD, Students Against Destructive Decisions, that will go towards putting on the After Prom Party at U-E. We will be meeting to discuss this donation.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask me.
Thank you,
Tom Latini

Rotary International President-elect R. Gordon R. McInally called for members to capture the world's attention and lead the way toward possibilities far beyond our current expectations.
McInally, a member of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry, West Lothian, Scotland, revealed the 2023-24 presidential theme, Create Hope in the World, during the Rotary International Assembly in Orlando, Florida, USA, on January 9th. He urged members to promote peace in troubled nations, help those affected by conflict, and maintain the momentum of initiatives begun by past leaders.
"The goal is to restore hope — to help the world heal from destructive conflicts and, in turn, to help us achieve lasting change for ourselves," McInally said at Rotary's annual training event for incoming district governors.
