Our Rotary Club is organizing a community fund raising event for our local food bank, Cortland Area Cares, which will involve an entertaining evening of family fun and excitement with the Harlem Ambassadors, an internationally-acclaimed exhibition basketball show team, who will play against the hometown team we are organizing, the Mosquito Lakers.

The Harlem Ambassador Game and Show will take place on Monday, October 29 at 6:30 PM at the Lakeview High School Basketball Gymnasium.  The Game and Show will feature fast-paced, dazzling basketball and also slower-paced comedy routines throughout the performance.

We are seeking the communities help in identifying 20 players for our challenging hometown team and will need both "highly skilled" and "reasonably skilled" basketball players.  They will play in two competitive and two show quarters against the Harlem Ambassadors.

The 1st and 3rd quarters are at a faster pace.  In these two periods, the Ambassadors want to face the best players we have.  Players with any apprehension about becoming involved in a "show" can be assured they will get an opportunity to play plenty of competitive basketball.if they are up to it!

The 2nd and 4th quarters involve more elaborate comedy routines, and the pace of the game is slower.  Participation by our most humorous, less athletic or well-known celebrity players will help this part of the show be the most fun.

We are especially looking for community players in the following area:

  • Teachers and Principals from our local schools
  • Coaches from any sport and at any level
  • Community or County public officials
  • Police and Fire personnel
  • Media personalities from our community
  • Sports celebrities... Like "LeBron James"
  • Leaders of local community service organizations and businesses

Due to insurance restrictions, the Harlem Ambassadors will not play challengers who are under 19 years of age.  Also, they will not play against students/athletes who have collegiate eligibility remaining or players who qualify for full or partial athletic scholarships.

Important:  Anyone interested in being considered as a player will need to complete and submit a Mosquito Lakers Player Registration Form.  The Form can be downloaded from the Downloads section on our homepage.  Information is on the Form regarding where to submit it, via e-mail or regular mail.  Filling out and submitting the Form does not assure you will be selected as a Player.  All registrant will be notified as soon as possible, if they have or have not been selected.  Thank you in advance for your interest in this fundraising event!

Liability Policy
Harlem Ambassadors, Inc. maintains a $1 million Liability Policy and the host organization, the Rotary Club of Cortland, will be added to the policy, which only covers the Game Day Event.

The Liability Policy does not include accident coverage for participants on the challenging team.  All participants will be required to complete an Accident Waiver and Release of Liability Form in order to participate in the event.

Purpose of the Event
The sole purpose of the Harlem Ambassadors Basketball Game and Show is to raise community awareness and funds for the efforts of Cortland Area Cares (CAC).  CAC is our largest local community food bank that provides food and personal care items to needy individuals and families living within the area of the Lakeview School District.  CAC is currently providing food and personal care items of need to approximately 150 individuals, families and senior citizens on a monthly basis.

"All of the profits raised from this Fundraiser go directly to Cortland Area Cares."

This effort has already gained the support of the eight (8) member Churches of the Lakeview Outreach and Fellowship organization (LOAF), the Lakeview School District, the Rotary Club of Cortland, the Bazetta/Cortland Optimist Club, and the Cortland Kiwanis Club to help promote the event, sell tickets and secure sponsorships.

Thank you on behalf of Cortland Area Cares and our community for your help in identifying players for our hometown Mosquito Lakers!
