Make a Difference Day

The Rotary Club of Cortland will be holding its Annual Poorest of the Poor Appalachian Clothing Drive on Saturday, October 22, to help provide much needed clothing for poverty-stricken individuals and families in the Appalachian mountain areas of Kentucky . 

 

The Lakeview High School Bus Garage will again be the drop off point for clothing between the hours of 9:00 AM and 2:30 PM .

 

Clean, new, old or used Clothing Only (pants, shirts, dresses, coats, jackets, sweaters, etc.) will be accepted and appreciated for men, women and children.

 

All clothing must be contained within plastic bags, paper bags or boxes.  No shoes or purses will be accepted, as this is a clothing drive only.

 

This is will the 23rd year the Club has held its Annual Clothing Drive, which is being held as part of national and local Make A Difference Day activities being held around the county, and has been an outreach of the project Poorest of the Poor project initially organized and coordinated by Rotarian S.P. Wright of the Rotary Club of Girard-Liberty.

 

All of the clothing collected will be immediately loaded into a the back of a truck for transport to the Poorest of the Poor storage facility in Girard and then transported to teh Appalachian Mountain region of Kentucky for distribution of the clothing to the needy individuals and families. 

 

 

Additionally, in conjunction with the Clothing Drive and its Make a Difference Day efforts, the Rotary Club of Cortland will also be holding a Cortland Area Cares Food and Donation Drive for our local community food pantry.  Cortland Area Cares provides food and personal care items to needy individuals and families within the communities of the Lakeview School District , as well as needy families associted with member churches of the Lakeview Outreach and Fellowship (LOAF).

 

All types of fresh canned or dry food and/or a donation to Cortland Area Cares will be greatly appreciated.  Donations by checks should be made out to Cortland Area Cares and are tax deductible.  Canned Foods Needed the Most: Soups, Fruits, Baked Beans, Meat, Tuna and Cake Icing for the upcoming holidays.   Boxed dry foods, such as soups, macaroni and cheese, stove top stuffing, hamburger helper, etc., will also be accepted.
