NEWS-NOTES-NONSENSE
On Thursday Circuit Judge Amy Sholar joined us a the program presenter. After her introduction by TomS, she provided an overview of the local judicial circuit. There are nine circuit judges and 13 associate judges in the circuit that covers Madison and Bond counties. Every judge is assigned a docket. For Amy, that's presiding judge for the Family Division. Amy is especially proud of the roll she plays in helping families navigate the court system. She advocates for a people first approach and wants to have a social worker assigned to the court to assist with resolving family issues and avoid a unnecessary court hearing.
Prez-elect BillP, secretary LoriP, treasurer GeorgeM and SAA PattiA were elected by acclamation to serve during the 2022-23 Rotary year. Thanks and congrats to these fine members.
Birthday greetings go out to TyB on the 8th.
A shout out to GeorgeM on 24 years of service and JoeS for 23 years.
Early arrivals included RodneyD, two members of the Riverbend club and our speaker.
As of Thursday BillP was still looking to fill three Winter Wonderland positions this coming Tuesday. MarkV still had two open slots for the Salvation Army bell ringing a week from today.
Our Christmas party will be held on December 15th @ MikeK's Cracker Factory penthouse. See your email from Thursday for the details and a link to sign up. BillP is serving as the chief elf.

The buffet featured pineapple pork, marshy sweet taters, mac 'n cheeze, rolls, salad, apple crisp and pumpkin pie.
RodneyD subbed for Prez Robin.
Our meeting census included 22 club members joined by 11 visiting Rotarians from the Riverbend club. BillP introduced a Riverbend friend/member who then introduced her fellow Rotarians.
Announcements-TylerL spoke about the Night of Christmas event, tonight, from 4-7 @ the EA village hall. TammyI is looking for volunteers to assist with the upcoming Community Christmas event. RickH thanked everyone for their generous Turkey Fund contributions.
LoriP read a letter of resignation from LindseyH. Her high energy will be missed. We wish her the best.
SAA LeonardB fined everyone who failed to read the District Gov's recent email about the Rotary Foundation. GeorgeT served as our lugmeister and paid a Happy Fine. Leonard also reviewed the seven areas of focus.
Opening duties were handled by BradL, ChrisH and TammyI.
50-50 opportunities were afforded to MarkA and JohnP. Even with a dwindling deck, both failed to locate the elusive joker. ScottL won the scratch-off.

Junior Rotarians Paige Baldwin and Dani Wilson visited the WR meeting. Dani really enjoyed spending time with PattiA and LeonardB, whom she knew growing up. (This space reserved for snarky comments).
Alton-Godfrey member Paul Maley visited the EA meeting peddling pecans.
DaveA, SteveD and JimH were recognized at the WR meeting for their December natal days.
EA member MarkS presented a make-up from the McKinzie, TN club.
LeonardB was among those fined during the WR meeting.
BradL and RhondaP were both nominated for EA prez-elect for the 12-13 Rotary year.
GeorgeT led the WR members in singing the Rotary song.
The winner of the Columbian emerald donated by EA member WendellR was raffled off. Jerry McRae was the winner.

I would never have thought I would get so much enjoyment out of a concert and be so exhilarated to be part of leading the charge for global change. Before the Global Citizen Live concert in Accra, Ghana, 24 September, Rotary International President Jennifer Jones, who was in our country visiting Rotary clubs and projects, encouraged all Rotaract members to be a part of the buildup to this big event by creating excitement. Our charge was to step on the world stage and join with artists and leaders around the world in creating awareness for the need to protect our planet and end extreme poverty.
I was more than eager to do my part and use my social media accounts and one-on-one engagements to spread the word, posting and reposting content about the festival on Twitter and Instagram. We urged as many people as we could to take part in the festival at the Black Star Square in Accra.
The stage was significant. This year’s event was the 10th anniversary for Global Citizen Festival and the first time the event was held in Ghana. Ghana is the first African country to gain its independence from colonial rule. The Black Star Square ceremonial grounds are where all our major celebrations take place. Being able to share the stage for Rotary at this significant gathering highlighted the important work that Rotary is doing in fighting hunger, preventing disease, providing clean water and sanitation, promoting peace, supporting education, and ending polio.
Truly, Rotary and Rotaract members are joining with global citizen and changemakers to take action and improve lives. I have just begun in my own small ways to create positive change. I hope our efforts before and after this event will inspire others to do their part as well.
