NEWS, NOTES & NONSENSE
LIKE I SAID...
  • The program was presented by Judge Kyle Napp. She explained the structure of the Edwardsville based circuit court and the use of specialty courts within circuit. (I am awaiting her permission to post the recording for public viewing.)
  • The early birds included Mark 1, Wendell, Virgil and Allen. Last in were Brad 1, Paul, Chris, Mark 2 and Joe.
  • We welcomed our favorite exchange student, Dani. She informed us that she especially likes her ceramic class and that a couple of family members (I believe her mum and sister) will be joining her next month for graduation.
  • The lunch entree was (pick one) hamburger, meat loaf, Salisbury Steak or Gainsburgers. It was accompanied by the ever present green beans and mexicorn, salad and cake. Let's not forget Sherry's cold rolls.
  • Server Karen was back and feeling OK after last week's auto accident. Her main injury was a displaced rib.
  • Wendell would prefer to be addressed as Dr. Feelgood.
  • Mark 3 has returned from his D.C. assignment for a couple of weeks.
  • Opening duties were provided by Fred, Rick and Mark 3.
  • It seems that SAA experienced a last minute spiritual awakening and had to visit the Busch Stadium shrine Thursday afternoon. Alas, his Birds blew a 4-2 lead.
  • Sandy pointed out that with 23 members in the house, it would almost be "sinful" to not have any fines. Sherry and Chris relieved her anxiety.
  • Fred introduced his entourage, Vickie and Allison (name spelling is questionable). Vickie pointed out that our speaker's mum was one of her teachers. Small world?
  • Lori began distributing Baseball Mania tickets. Got yours?
  • Paul had an announcement about a new grand daughter.
  • Prez Sherry forget to ring the ending bell, chaos ensued. Oh my!
  • Chris and Sherry/Sandy/Dani took turns drawing cards for the 50-50, neither won. Mark 1 took the scratch-off.
  • That's all from here. Have a fine and dry weekend.
EYES ON THE CARDS, PLEASE

  • Current members in a leadership position were: Prez Brad 1, Paul and Rick
  • Rotarian and Village Treasurer Mike Peterson provided the program. It was the same one that he recently presented to a second grade class. (Draw your own conclusions.) At that time the village had a budget of $6.5 million and 100 employees.
  • 22 members were in the house. Wendell was fined for not helping the acting SAA, Marty Marks
  • Congrats were offered to Fred Bright and Wayne Buttry as incoming and retiring village mayor.
  • Cecil Neunaber and Red Littleton were collecting magazines to be distributed to area care centers

Create ‘Twitter volunteer’ opportunities

By Doug Vincent, a past district governor and member of the Rotary Club of Woodstock-Oxford, Ontario, Canada

Recently, I attended a great presentation on “Embracing Opportunity” as part of our day-to-day life. I’ve had the benefit of enjoying opportunities through my global Rotary activities and travels, but many members do not do take advantage of this outside their local Rotary club. Here is a great way to attract new member prospects with fun and enjoyment.

The author and travel writer Paul Knowles spoke about how we can each enjoy life’s journey more when we are open to take advantage of opportunities that arise. He shared a variety of interesting experiences he had enjoyed by merely saying “yes” to invitations or suggestions while travelling. Once, when he was being taken to an island, he was invited to take the helm of a speed boat. At first he was hesitant and nervous. But then his mind accepted the opportunity and he “put the throttle down.” He noted, “I felt adrenaline that had not been there for years.”

Some ideas he shared included saying yes when a friend suggests a trip or activity; exploring different places or doing unique activities that may arise when you travel; meeting people from different cultures and learning from them; and volunteering for an event or group to make new friends and assist with a cause.  The continue reading, link here  http://bit.ly/2ntUXru
