             MUSTARD FOR YOUR BRAT?

  • Sandy introduced Madison County Health Department Director Toni Corona, who was in the house for the second time this month. She provided a comprehensive overview of the services provided by her 37 employees. The department was established in 1996, with Toni serving as director during the past 16 years. The primary responsibilities of the health department are to protect and promote good health, prepare for emergencies and prevent illness. There are four divisions within the health department: health services, health protection, community health and administrative services. Do you know anyone in need of immunization shots? An international travel consult? Toni's crew can help. In 2018 the health department provided 3,800 food service inspections. • The final chili supper net was $1,239.
  • There was significant attrition on Thursday due, we  surmise, to the GA's Captain  & Tennille event. Question, why even have a regular meeting if only 13 members attend?  Next year let's head to JJ's for a gab fest? You can spend your meal charge dollars on better grub. You in? Congrats to Todd Kennedy on being recognized for the Eastgate improvements.
  •  Allen, MarkS, Pat and Rod arrived before noon. Later arrivals included BradP, ChrisH, BradL and Paul.
  • Happy anniversary to Lori and Rodney. Happy birthday to Wendell, who's off house hunting in Columbia. Congrats to BradL as he celebrates 9 years as a member. I believe Charlie "Mr. Olin" Kunz recruited Brad.
  • Our entree choices were sauced pork and dressing and  sauced chicken and rice. Rotary g-beans  returned, accompanied by torpedo rolls, salad and three dessert options.
  • Don't forget that Rodney's church is hosting a family movie and game night this evening (Saturday). It all starts at 6.
  • Thanks to MarkA for doing the heavy lifting for the cookout and to SallyS for coordinating the tasty sides. The meager attendance may be cause to rethink the event going forward.
  • Prez Brad reported that Rhonda is working on the details of a combined club meeting.
  • It might be about time to turn on the fire place. Who's got the controller?
  • The Turkey Fund is now at $185. All donations will be given to Operation Blessing to purchase Thanksgiving food items. If you are donating via check, make it payable to Operation Blessing.
  • Opening duties were handled by Sandy, ChrisH and Rodney.
  • How much does Allen like Silver $ City? He visited three times in one week. He's not particularly fond of their herd and fleece policy.
  • Thursday was World Polio Day. Prez Brad reminded everyone that we are committed to raising $500 for the Polio Plus program this year.
  • It sounds like Sherry is takin' care of business in Stuart, FL, sailfish capital of the world!
  • SAA Chris fined those not attending the cookout. States geography was the trivia topic. Did you know that Alaska is farther west than Hawaii? Trick question, but true. It's beginning to look like Emily is the new go-to person for sports trivia.
  • Our Olga's fund raiser is on November 1st, this coming Friday. You must present the flyer for us to benefit. Lunch or dinner. Pass the info along via talk, text or social media.
  • 50-50 card drawers were BradP and Sandy. They ducked on the $107 jackpot. MarkS won the scratch off.
  • That's it, have a fine and dry weekend (at least Sunday). Ciao!

Which U.S. states make up the Four Corners?
Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah
Colorado, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming
Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah
Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas

The Four Corners in the southwestern United States is made up of: Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. The monument marks the intersection of these states, the only place in the country where four different states meet. Despite its relatively remote location among Navajo and Ute reservation land, the Four Corners is quite popular — where else can people be in four places at once? If you visit, try placing either a hand or foot in each state over the border lines. Other than the novelty, the area is also some of the most beautiful areas of desert in the United States.

CREATING A FAMILY-FRIENDLY ROTARY VIBE

By Anabella Bonfa, Rotary Club of Irvine, California with Anthony Bonfa

My husband and I and our teenage son Anthony all volunteer at 30 or more projects every year. We consider ourselves a Rotary family. All three of us are hands-on because we come from a smart club that engaged our son in Rotary projects at a young age.
We all enjoy Rotary because it gives us a joint activity where we can spend time together with mutual friends, contribute our individual talents, and create a better world. My club went out of their way to include Anthony from day one. This is how he explains it:
“My first experience with Irvine Rotary was when I was 9. My mom had just joined the club and she started taking me to every volunteer project with her. I didn’t know what to do to help at first. Don Kennedy was the president of the club that first year and he changed everything for me by putting me to work.
“I remember being at a local food drive where we were collecting food donations outside a grocery store. Don reached into his pocket, pulled out $40 and told me to go shop in the store for “food samples” to put on our display table. That same day, Don told me I was old enough to count all the money and checks, about $400 worth and I became his official accountant. I had a great time shopping and counting money.
