TOMMIE'S TIPS FOR GOOD LIVING
NEWS-NOTES-NONSENSE
On Thursday TommieM shared some thoughts on humor (laughing is good), good diet (think Mediterranean), doctor visits (a mixed bag of results) and tips on being a safe senior citizen. All good stuff.
Several folks had announcements-Rox Nazarene Assistant Pastor Jeremy Martin told us about a musical worship service on the 19th where folks are requested to bring donated school supplies. TylerL , relaying a message from MarioS, filled us in on a public info session about solar panels being installed near the junior high school. Tyler also told us about the big back to school event being held at the rec center today. BradL shared some event info that he picked up at recent veterans outreach group.
Early arrivals included TommieM, AllenH, MarkA and PattiA.
The slide right in gang included-BradP, JohnP, BillP, ChrisH, DaveA and MikeK.
There are no birthday's or service anniversaries to recognize this week.
LoriP sez it's not too late to have sold tickets entered into the Baseball Mania hopper. Our net to date is $1228. Thanks to all who sold/bought some tix.
Opening duties were successfully managed by Prez Rodney, PaulH and JohnP.
JohnP is northbound this weekend for Lollapalooza, not!. He's going to attend a Cubs vs Brave game.Heis oh so hopeful that his beloved Northsiders will, once again, win the World Series. He also admitted that he played hooky the day the Cubs held their WS parade in 2016.
22 members dined on BBQ/bourbon chicken, asparagus (some members refused to plate at least one spear. They were reported to TommieM for dietary mediation), rolls, salad and sweet treats.
MarkA will be bi-costal the next few weeks. It seems he has been singing along with Tony Bennett, something about his heart.
LeonardB and MikeK arrived @ 12:14. CoryG, GeorgeM and PaulH arrived a wee bit earlier.
SAA PattiA gave all four tables a trivia
Q about animals. Two tables answered incorrectly resulting in a $ fine for each table member.
LeonardB and DaveA (pulling for HenryS) chose 50-50 cards from last week. No winner. DaveA and MarkSm were this week's winners, same results. BillP went scratching.

The New Mexico flag, adopted in 1920, is one of just four state flags not to feature the color blue. Instead, it has a series of red symbols on a yellow background. The colors pay homage to the state's Spanish heritage, while the symbol is an interpretation of an ancient sun design of the Zia Indigenous people. The rays of the sun reach out in four directions, representing the cardinal points, the seasons, the times of day, and the periods of life. The inner circle, which keeps them all connected, represents the circle of life.

WR members heard a presentation about the VFW while the EA club heard out about the Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance program.
Prez PaulG told the WR club that the Back to School Bash was a huge success. He thanked TommieM, LeonardB and DonnaK for their asistance.
PaulH, MarkSp, RodC and RickH helped celebrate Red Littleton's birthday with a visit to his current residence Jacksonville, IL.
The WR club is moving forward with the art work created by EA-WR HS students. The piece will be installed at the fire department.
TyB recently returned from Branson, WendellR was back from Cuba. He does not recommend the Cuban lasagna.
Happy Fines were paid by JohnP and GeorgeM.
Prez BillP presented ErinP with her 10 year service award.
ScottL left $302 on the table. SherryT and PaulH followed suit at the EA meeting.
Prez PaulG was seeking nominations for community "unsung heros".
LeonardB visited the EA meeting to speak about the Rotary Foundation.
AlanaY served as the meeting greeter.

SMALL CLUB DELIVERS BIG RESULTS
High in the Andes, an indigenous community had been waiting more than a decade for clean drinking water.
They had worked with a regional water agency on a plan, but didn't have the funding to put it into effect – until they met a new Rotary club willing to apply for their first global grant.
The village of Cochapamba lies in the shadow of Ecuador's highest peak, Chimborazo, about 250 kilometers (155 miles) south of Quito. Residents had to journey an hour to bathe or wash their clothes. They would draw a small weekly allotment of water for drinking from an irrigation basin meant for crops — and risk getting sick from the untreated water.
Villagers had formed a water board and worked with the regional water agency to design a system for pulling water down from a mountain catchment and treating it. But their plan couldn't be implemented without more funding. Meanwhile, some of the residents who occasionally came into Guaranda, a town about 8 kilometers (5 miles) away, got to know members of the Rotary Club of Guaranda, Bolivar, which had just chartered in 2019.
"We have been dealing with this problem for many years. We had a project ready, but nobody could help us," says Doroteo Santillan, a Cochapamba resident interviewed by the station GuarandaTV in a video made by the club. "But then we found the Rotary club ... and they helped us access the water."
"My wife saw how the women had to carry water on their backs and started thinking, 'How could we help?'" says Alfonso Camacho, service chair for the Guaranda club.
The new club had never applied for a global grant from The Rotary Foundation. But its members got lots of advice from others in Rotary, found a partner, and worked with people in Cochapamba on the system that now provides safe drinking water to 133 families.
