Happy New (Rotary) Year! It's time to thank Robin for serving as our leader this past year and to welcome Prez Rodney to the podium. We had about 35 members and guests at the Installation Dinner on June 22nd. It was great to have TommieM and HenryS join us that evening. Steve the crooner serenaded us with Sinatra faves whilst we noshed and chatted. SteveSm announced that Rustic Roots was voted as ourBusiness of the Year winner. He thanked everyone who voted. It was a very close race. (By the way, isn't the RR owner the granddaughter of long time WR Rotarian Dick Bell?) Melinda and Bill Yates will receive the award at an upcoming meeting. Robin spent a few minutes sharing her thoughts on the past year and Prez Rodney shared his vision for the 23-24 year, focusing on the Create Hope in the World theme.
On Thursday July 5th we take the show on the road to the Keasler Recreation Center in East Alton. If you plan to attend please respond to the email you received this past Wednesday so Chef Bob will have an accurate lunch head count. TylerL has arranged a Pickleball demonstration for us. Let's recap, our next meeting will be at the Keasler Rec Center.
Naval Academy graduate and Vietnam era chopper pilot Rusty Jones was in the house on Thursday to make a presentation about the American Legion sponsored Missouri Boys State program that was taking place this past week. Several hundred high school age young men were gathered at Lindenwood University in St. Charles to learn how to create and run our 51st virtual state. It's a very immersive program that teaches these young men about leadership and citizenship.
Our meeting on July 13th will feature a presentation by the Curtain's Up Theatrical Company. They will be previewing selections from their next production, The Wizard of Oz. Just follow your own Yellow Brick Road to Julia's.
Early arrivals included MikeK, AllenH, RodC and MarkA.
Prez-Elect BillP took care of all things podium related on Thursday. He reminded everyone that while LoriP is off cruzin' the Caribbean, there are still Baseball Mania tickets available to adopt.
MarkA has replaced his sling and brace with twice a week visits to the physical therapist. Golf will have to wait. RodC was sporting few stitches in his lip from a recent sidewalk header.
Birthday greetings on the 2nd go out to LeonardB, SandyS and JasonW.AllenH lights roman candles on the 4th.
Opening duties were handled by BradL, PaulH and MarkA.
Service anniversaries-PatB-42 years, LeonardB-27 and PattiA-24.
21 members dined on BBQ chicken, corn on the cob minis, baked beans, salad and chocolate eclairs. TommieM observed that she didn't know what the desserts were but anything with chocolate on it had to be good.
Last in the house included TylerL, PaulH, LeonardB and ChrisH.
LeonardB served as acting SAA and reminded everyone about Prez Rodney's two-bits for the Rotary Foundation admonition. Got BBQ sauce on your fingers? Pay a $.
The jackpot went unclaimed by AllenH and JohnP. No word on how TylerL did with the scratch-off.
