PATTY'S OUR PREZ ISSUE
JULY 14, 2018
NEWS NOTES & NONSENSE
PAUL PRESENTS TO PATTY
Mark2 introduced our speaker Tim Gutknecht (pronounced just as it's spelled). He is a Rotarian with the Columbia, Illinois club. Tim's spoke about the Belize Children's Rotary Project, now in its 41st year. Via a series of clinics in Belize, children with a variety of orthopedic problems are identified and treated. The most serious cases are treated at St. Louis Shriner's Hospital. Even though financial donations are always appreciated, Tim indicated that the most significant need is for families to host one of the children while they receive treatment. The age of the child and their length of stay varies. Please contact Charlene Brennan, 618.691.9120, for additional hosting information. Thanks for your consideration and please share this information with others.
Rotarian Paul Hart with the Mabalacat, Philippines club was in the house to thank us for being one of 15 clubs in District 6460 to help support a global Grant for their children's hair lip palate project. He presented a memento and club flag to Prez Patty.
Brad2 and Mark2 (deuces wild!) were the first in the house, followed by Allen, Rod and Mark1. Post-noon arrivals included Sherry, Randy, Bill and Chris1.
MIA were Rhonda (we know why) , Lori (we suspect Florida), Queenie and Cory (no clue on those two).
Lacking an official Rotary make-up form, Bill and Sherry decided that he would sign-off for an attendee as a minister and she would notarize. Sounds pretty official to us.
Rick distributed Program of the Year forms. Please vote ASAP. Voting ends on the 19th.
Welcome to our vegan world. Our lunch entree was white fish with rice and spinach. More rice and corn were the sides. The strawberry salad was a first. "veggie" carrot cake was also served. Is calling corn a veggie a push? (It's also a grain and a fruit).
"Farmer Bill" brought a selection of veggies to distribute. Paul scored a giant heirloom mater.Thank you very much!
Our 3 Mark's and 2 Brad's were in the "full" house of 19 members.
It sounded a lot like Chris2 was planning some sort of palace coup to remove Quennie as our SAA. We think that his threat was "in the moment" and not too serious. Not in the house last week? Pay a $. Wearing shorts? Pay a $. Trivia topics covered M & M's, McDonald's, baseball and the U.S, President's cabinet.
Visitors included Wood River's Tommie and Paul Hart from the Mabalacat Philippines club
50-50 opportunities were waived off by Mark3 and Tommie. Dave pondered his scratch-off opportunity.
Opening duties were performed by Mark2, Chris2 and Bill
That's all from here, have a fine and dry weekend.

DOING GOOD IN VIETNAM
By Shahul Hameed, Rotary Club of Singapore (District 3310)
For some of us, it might be hard to imagine life without clean water. We may have suffered the inconveniences of temporary water cuts due to breakdowns or repairs in the water network. And we may have felt frustration after working out at the fitness center if the shower was broken. But those are just minor inconveniences compared to what people in the Huong Nguyen commune live with. Until recently.
It takes a drive over many miles through tortuous and bumpy roads to reach Huong Nguyen commune. It is located in a very mountainous region, close to the Laos border, in the A Luoi District, Thua Thien Hue Province, one of the most affected areas during the Vietnam War. Through the assistance of a Rotary Foundation global grant, a project provided a water supply system and environmental sanitation benefitting 1,252 people in 316 households. The project also enabled construction of 50 hygienic latrines. These play an essential role in keeping waste away from living spaces, which means less disease and better health for all the affected people. to continue reading, link herehttps://bit.ly/2m1uSSa
