FEBRUARY RHS SAS STUDENTS HALEY & LANDON
NEWS-NOTES-NONSENSE
On Thursday we heard a presentation from Rosie Ellington, the College for Life Program Coordinator at LCCC. The program serves 150 students at the Godfrey and Edwardsville campuses and virtually. It's designed to provided a true campus experience by offering non-credit courses that encourage social interaction and provide entertaining learning opportunities in a post-secondary environment. The program is now 20 years old.
Exchange student Lily will benefit from a dine and donate event this coming Monday (3-9) at Peel restaurant in Edwardsville. She will receive 20% of (almost) all profits. You must show the flyer to the server when you order. (The flyer is below). If you have been to Peel you probably agree with the statement that they have great food served by a competent and friendly staff. If you haven't been there, go on Monday and help Lilly raise some $$ for her year in Italy. See you at Peel!
Our gumbo fund raiser is scheduled for Saturday April 25th @ the Keasler Center. See flyer below.

We recognized the RHS February Service Above Self students-Haley Eads and Landon Smith.
Prez Mark delivered on his pledge to open the business session with a strong bell clang.
Monica Bristow was on hand and announced that she will transfer to our club. It will be great to have her on board.
Our club's 100th anniversary is coming up in 2029. How will we recognize and celebrate?
Congrats to MarkA on his 15 years of club service.
Trivia recap-A fun night for all 22 tables of players.There were 18 members assisting or playing, some doing both. A big thanks to JoeS and Prez Mark for providing leadership for the event. And thanks to everyone who assisted with donations, event help or by organizing a table. "Manager" JoeS reports that our net for the evening was $6156 and that our next project will be to fund a frisbee golf course in Belk Park. Also, we raised a few$ for Lilly via a heads or tails game. Our 50-50 winner took home $517. An trivia night photo album has been created.
WendellR returned from his winter sojourn in Columbia, wearing long pants and unrecruited by the Columbian army or one of the drug cartels.
Prez Mark read a thank you note from EA Parks & Rec for our trivia table sponsorship. He pointed out how difficult their Q's were.

In case you missed it-The March issue of Rotary Magazine featured a service project by the Collinsville High School Interact club. Find it on page 18.

There were 20 members carbo loading on Thursday-Mostaccioli, corn, cheezy noodles, garlic bread, salad and cookies.
SAA RickH recruited PaulH as the finemaster. We answered 3 out of 5 trivia Q's correctly, including the tooth fairy payoff. FYI-George Harrison had the first post-Beatle chart topper-My Sweet Lord. Not a SIUE grad? pay a $.
The $19 50-50 was unclaimed by DianeS and Prez Mark. AllenH won the scratch-off.

Since 1907, the cobblestone streets of Pike Place have been home to some of Seattle’s best-loved food vendors and local artisans. If the name sounds familiar to Starbucks enthusiasts, it’s for a good reason. The famous coffee shop was founded in 1971 at the same market, so it was only fitting that the coffee roasters named their house blend after Pike Place.

We heard a presentation about the Trail Assist program.
There were 22 members in the house, 7 via Zoom.
Opening duties were handled by PaulH and RodneyD.
ChrisH was impressed by the size of the salad bowl.He was also curious if we would see Rotary g-beans and fried chicken before MarkSp returned from Florida.
AllenH entered the room singing the ROTARY song.
Members serving as local elected officials were recognized and thanked-ChrisH, CherylM, LoriP and SherryT.
PattyA and GeorgeM were the last to arrive.
RodneyD observed that several members of his congregation preferred to listen to the worship service in their cars because the audio was better.
Virtual Color Run registration was under way.

Have you ever wondered what goes on at RYLA?
(We will be sponsoring four RYLA students this year. Two from EA-WR and two from RHS. It will be held at Lake Williamson in Carlinville,IL)
RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Academy) is jam-packed full of unexpected adventures!
Students start the April 10-12 weekend with a leadership questionnaire that allows them to find their unique leadership style.
The results of this questionnaire allow students of all leadership styles to be divided into small groups, focusing on activities to best complete the challenge, the game, or the projects at hand. Students get creative by designing a poster based on their leadership quality questionnaire, visually representing their strengths and weaknesses and sharing with the group.
The main event on Saturday is utilizing their leadership characteristics to complete the rope course challenges. All morning, they will work together to complete difficult yet fun obstacle courses, where they learn about communication skills and teamwork.
In the evening, the students put Service Above Self in action to complete a service project. This year's project is packing PDK (personal dignity kits) partnering with Midwest Missions. There will be 140 kits packed!
This weekend is all about building strong leaders, but don’t forget all the games, gym time, the bonfire, and a surprise mystery activity.
