NEWS, NOTES & NONSENSE
BIRTHDAY PAUL KEEPS ON SCRATCHIN'

  • Do you have a guardian angel? Our program presenter, Ron Wenzel, has the answer (and a book with all sorts of tasty tidbits about Angels and Demons). The video of his presentation has been posted.
  • 19 members were in the house, led by Allen, Pat and Mark 1. Arriving fashionably late (but before the bell) were Chris, Paul and Bill.
  • Roger returned, but seems to have lost a step when it comes to banging the bell.
  • Allen and Pat spent some quality time discussing Italian eats.
  • Soups of the day were cream of tater and chicken noodle. The soups spoons were MIA for a bit. Hail Caesar salad, cobbler and baked taters were also on the food line. Wendell had trouble pouring his soup in his baker.
  • Roger declared Julia's unfit for occupancy because the all but one of the exit doors were locked. No one panicked to leave. The situation was resolved in a calmly manner.
  • Joe's wanky shoulder won't allow him to pitch but he he will be able to golf, or at least swing his clubs.
  • It sounds like Lockhaven may be reopened.
  • Darren was working "undercover'.
  • The orphan jacket belonged to Bill.
  • Chris H wants to know "what is a password?"
  • It was decided that the best place for an exercise machine is in front of the TV or maybe  in a yard sale.
  • Joe suggested that Chris H's daughter will own her own business by the age of 15.
  • Paul, Mark 3 and Bill performed the opening duties.
  • Lori informed us that our net to date for Baseball Mani is $636. Keep selling!
  • Sherry has ordered tickets for the Rotary Day at the Ballpark.
  • Check your inbox for a Paul Harris Fellow ballot. Nomination will be accepted by Rhonda until May 19th.
  • Do you have a suggestion for the Business of the Year award?
  • SAA Bill and Sandy worked the crowd hard and fast. Paul has fond recollections of the Beatles song When I'm 64. Roger has some good news to report. The Mensa table knew who founded Rome in 700B.C. Other answers included the Boston Marathon, yellow ribbons and the HMS Bounty.
  • Sherry reminded Allen that if you read it on Facebook it must be true!
  • The Riverbend Rotary is sponsoring a Prayer Breakfast on May 5th, 8:30 start, at the Alton YWCA.
  • The 50-50 jackpot of $20 was left safely in the bag by Matt and Wendell. Paul was seen feverishly working his scratch-off hoping for an instant retirement payoff from Illinois. A dreamer can dream.
  • That's all from here. Have a fine and dry weekend.

SMILE
Noun genders:
  • Ziplock bags-Male, because they hold everything in, but you can see right through them.
  • Swiss army knife-Male, because even though it appears useful for a wide variety of work, it spends most of its time just opening bottles.
  • Kidneys-Female, because they always go to the bathroom in pairs.
  • Copier-Female, because once turned off, it takes a while to warm up. Because it can wreak havoc when the wrong buttons are pushed.

ROTARY CHANGES

The 2016 Council on Legislation may well be remembered as one of the most progressive in Rotary history.

Not only did this Council grant clubs more freedom in determining their meeting schedule and membership, it also approved an increase in per capita dues of $4 a year for three years. The increase will be used to enhance Rotary’s website, improve online tools, and add programs and services to help clubs increase membership.

The Council is an essential element of Rotary’s governance. Every three years, members from around the world gather in Chicago to consider proposed changes to the policies that govern the organization and its member clubs. Measures that are adopted take effect 1 July.

The tone for this year was set early, when the RI Board put forth two proposals that increase flexibility. The first measure allows clubs to decide to vary their meeting times, whether to meet online or in person, and when to cancel a meeting, as long as they meet at least twice a month. The second allows clubs flexibility in choosing their membership rules and requirements. Both passed. To read more link here  http://tinyurl.com/z5fjqkm
