    DANI GETS "BOMBED" BY SANDY

  • Matt introduced our program presenter, Sheena Whitehead. She is with the American Cancer Society. Sheena told us about all the services the ACS provides to cancer patients. Watch the vide and learn how much you didn't know.
  • Sherry returned to take the gavel. Unfortunately, Rick failed to bring the presidential satchel (that was given to him by Bill the previous week) so she had to wing it. With a little help from her "friends", she did fine.
  • We welcomed our newest Rotarian Ty Bechel. Mark 1 presented his Rotary pin.
  • Dani was with us and received her badge from Lori. She recently "graduated" from Roxana HS and is looking forward to joining her fellow exchange students on a trip west in mid June. Don't forget about including her in your plans. Day trip, restaurant, or... Rick has her calendar if you need to know if her schedule is clear. She will be returning to Chile in late July.
  • Matt's wife Christina joined us for lunch and to listen to Sheena's presentation.
  • Dave arrived whistling up a storm.
  • Early arrivals included Mark 1, Allen, Brad 2 and Darren. Roger, Joe, Lindsey, and both Chris's were among the last of the 22  (23 if you count Ty) members in the house.
  • The buffet featured roast beast, whipped tater 'n gravy, sweet tater casserole,  mexicorn, salad and G-chocolate cake.
  • We celebrated Mark 3's birthday, before he heads off to DC for a couple of weeks of nanny duty.
  • Once again Bill was AWOL, visiting with his buds at Busch (at least they won). Rick covered his SAA duties and accepted Rhonda's help to handle the bucket duties. Time was of the essences, so the trivia was limited to U.S. airport acronyms. Federal Reserve bingo was also featured.
  • Sandy and Wendell had fond youthful memories of Sandy Beach near Meadowbrook. Rick offered Pontoon Beach as an option.
  • Don't forget to put the Installation Dinner on your calendar. It's June 29th. Fellowship @ 6, dinner @ 6:30. The sign up sheet is now making the rounds. If you signed up on line there's no need to put your name on the hard copy list.
  • We have made $747 in Baseball Mania sales to date. There's still about 6 weeks to sell your paper or online tickets. Get busy!
  • Opening duties were provided by Sandy, Paul and Dave.
  • Lindsey and Rick drew 50-50 rain checks, Paul put on his glasses and realized that he won the scratch-off.
  • That's all from here. Have a fine and dry weekend.

DATELINE:RI

Make someone smile, and see how it changes you

By Nicolas Silva, member of the Rotaract Club of Trenque Lauquen, Argentina
Four years ago, our club undertook a project called “Todo Sirve,” which literally means “’everything serves.” We collected donations in our city, including food, drinking water, clothes, children’s toys, bikes, and beds for an aboriginal low-income community, the Qom village, located in Formosa, a northern province of Argentina.
I will never forget hearing the word “gnashek” (Qom for ‘thanks’) from a woman who I was giving a box of donations to.
In that moment, my whole world stopped, and I understood how interconnected we all are. So many things that I take for granted, others need and sometimes have to do without.
I joined the Rotaract Club of Trenque Lauquen in 2013 looking for new friendships, but I’ve come to realize that Rotaract is so much more. I’ve been president, vice-president, and currently treasurer of my club. And I find that being in Rotaract is also a way to feel; to enjoy; to share; to serve; and above all, to learn with friends.
In spite of all the hard work that this project took – organizing meetings, sending letters, searching for people who want to join, receiving and sorting donations – I came to understand better the opportunities Rotaract provides. When we traveled within the community, we were accompanied by our fellow Rotaractors from Formosa, making the project easier and more enjoyable. Traveling 1,400 kilometers (about 870 miles) became like nothing, because we were going to serve alongside our friends.  To continue reading link here https://tinyurl.com/ycc2yvpc
