NEWS, NOTES & NONSENSE
NO LUCK OF THE IRISH

  • Dave welcomed our guest speaker Elaine Kane. Elaine is the Alton School District Reach Out and Read program coordinator. It's a very simple program that works! The video has been posted.
  • I failed to thank those that sent me event photos while I was was away. My bad.
  • There will not be a BANNER next week. It should return on the 26th.
  • The four videos that Brad P shot while the editor was away have now been posted. You will find them in chronological order on our home page. Thanks Brad!
  • Our guest speaker was the first to arrive, oh my! Allen, Virgil and Lori were the early arrivals, but after our speaker. Rhonda, Paul, Chris and Brad P arrived before Roger struck the bell.
  • Ham, pork, chicken in BBQ sauce, mixed veggies, salad and cake graced the buffet table.
  • Virgil was feelin' wonderful.
  • Roger was back from work related training in Peoria, where things got a little wild and he got lost. He never did find Big Al's, but he knows someone who did.
  • Sherry enjoyed her PETS (President Elect Training Seminar) experience. There were lots of items and $4000 cash donated for the veterans service project.
  • She met the 1st female Rotarian and got to pow-wow with other area incoming club presidents. They hope to establish a regularly scheduled social hour open to all club members. She and Sandy assured us that the only place they shopped was at the Rotary merchandise table. Sure!
  • Matt Johnson was inducted as our newest Rotarian. Please welcome him to our club.
  • Our only guest was Dave's wife Cora.
  • Welcome back to Bill, Wendell and Rhonda.
  • It seems that Dick has adopted the Don Brandt club visitation schedule.
  • Lori has found the BaseballMania tickets. Pick them up now.
  • Dave, Roger and Bill took care of opening duties.
  • Don't forget that there is a dish near the badges for Karen's lunch tips. Show your appreciate for a job well done.
  • Bill announced, rather coyly, we might add, that he will be accepting a new ministerial assignment starting July 1st. He's headed to Vienna ,Illinois, but not before he officiates at Rhonda's wedding. It's safe to say that he will somehow be involved with the Paul Powell Museum. Anyone have a empty shoebox that they would like to donate?
  • Sherry reminds you that the Illinois primary day is this Tuesday, the 15th.
  • Roger has found his committee for the Wann Disaster historic marker project. Rhonda, Sandy and Dave will be representin'. Proceeds from the BaseballMania ticket sales will be applied to the project.
  • Bill solicited Sandy to collect the fines. He was quickly exposed for his lack of Bee Gee's knowledge.
  • Randy X 2 left $120 on the 50-50 table. Sherry and Sandy both scratched.
  • That's all from here. Have a fine and dry weekend.

SMILE
  • I didn't make it to the gym today. That makes five years in a row.
  • Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators. We haven't met yet.
  • The biggest lie I tell myself is, "I don't need to write that down, I'll remember it."
  • When I was a child I thought "nap time" was a punishment. Now, it feels like a small vacation.

Interact Video Awards shows the global impact of Interact
This year Interact clubs from 25 different countries submitted videos showing how they learn leadership and share the magic of Interact. They showed the world how they make a difference in communities locally and globally. The award for “Best Video” went to the Interact Clubs of Aquinas, Central, Logan, Holmen and West Salem for their video, “iFeed.” These five Interact clubs, usually fierce competitors in sports, united a community to help end hunger. The judges also recognized three runners-up—The Interact Clubs of Geethaanjali, Hugh Boyd Secondary, and North Balwyn—for sharing their inspiring stories.
