NEWS-NOTES-NONSENSE
If you have participated in the Amazon Smile program you probably received an email in the past few days indicating that Amazon plans to sunset the program by February 20th. Until then, please continue to "Smile" on our foundation. Thanks to all who have participated in the program the past few years.
Once again we welcomed Riverbend Rotarian Jeanne Truckey. By the way, she happens to know the apartment number where Mary Tyler Moore resided.
LeonardB encouraged everyone to attend our next meeting to hear District Rotary Foundation Chair Brian Barstead talk about the Rotary Foundation. Leonard is selling $25 opportunities to win a Paul Harris Fellowship award. The winner decides who will be the beneficiary of the honor. Bring you checkbook/cash next week.

Prez Robin wants to know if you can have a real buffet brunch without OJ or milk? (FYI-Not-from-concentrate OJ is currently priced north of $10 per gallon).
BradL was sending his 16 year old daughter on her first one-on-one date Thursday night. We hope it went well.
Prez Robin and PattiA both spoke highly of the 1929 pizza place in downtown WR.They both love it! Reservations are recommended.
RodneyD hit the buffet line @ 12:10. Arriving a bit earlier were-LeonardB, JohnP and PattiA.
Our meeting census included 17 club members.
Prez Robin announced that we will be partnering with the Bethalto club to host a Pins for Polio event on February 16th at the Airport Plaza Bowl. Details to follow.
.SAA LeonardB and lugmeister RodneyD fined everyone who groaned at Leonard's golf joke. Money well spent. We successfully answered all the sports trivia Q's. TylerP paid a Happy Fine and proudly announced that the park district sponsored Daddy Daughter Dance is sold out.
Opening duties were handled by Prez Robin, AllenH and JohnP.
The jackpot has grown to $286, BradP and CoryG both looked in vain for the joker. PaulH won a $ on the scratchie.

A third of the world's 6,000 languages are spoken here, despite the fact that it’s home to only one-sixth of the total global population. In comparison, approximately 300 languages are spoken in Europe. The four most common languages in Africa are English, French, Arabic, and Swahili, but it’s not uncommon for an African to be multilingual — in one survey, Ugandans spoke an average of 4.37 languages per person. In fact, African countries make up seven of the top ten linguistically diverse countries.

EA members enjoyed a visit by two owls that were from of the Treehouse Wildlife Refuge program.
JimH has the opportunity to claim the $656 WR QoH jackpot. Drumroll..he won! The $34 EA jackpot was rejected by PatB and WendellR.
17 EA members dined on Julia's mexi-bar. BradP presented a make-up from the WR club.
There were two Junior Rotarians from RHS at the WR meeting-Tabi Dedhotel and Audrey Groves.
The EA club celebrated the 88th birthday of Charlie Kunz. LoriP served him coffee.
MikeK paid a Happy Fine to recognize the successful surgery on his mum TommieM.
JoeS arrived after PaulH (late) with the sign-up sheet for the basketball tournament.
Members of the EA-WR Interact club attended the January 13th WR meeting.
EA club Prez RhondaP read thank you notes from Operation Blessing and the Salvation Army.
JohnP reminded everyone the Trivia Night would be held on March 28th and round sponsorships are available for $25.
SAA RickH befuddled the EA crowd with a Q about the new Rotary theme.
DaveA would coordinate dictionary distribution for the 3rd graders at Hartford Elementary.
JoeS announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the Defense Area housing project would take place on February 10th.

Membership has grown 23.5% in Ukraine since Russian forces invaded the country on 24 February 2022. The region, which comprises Rotary District 2232, has added four Rotary clubs and five satellite clubs. The reasons behind this growth hold important insights for any Rotary club interested in increasing its membership or any district looking to add clubs.
The clubs in Ukraine became more visible in their communities in the days and months after the war began. People are witnessing the positive impact members are having and want to join in on making a difference.
One club, for example, had their members learn to become volunteer firefighters so they could help put out fires, literally, when local building are hit by shelling.
People are drawn to the opportunity to find meaning and purpose when they see real positive change taking place.
The example in Ukraine essentially confirms the results of the three most recent Rotary International annual surveys – the all-member, programs and offerings, and leadership surveys. These found that club experience is the single most important indicator of member satisfaction. A Rotary member who does not have a positive club experience won’t find enough value in the club to stay. New members who join a club but find it doesn’t meet their expectation frequently leave. And new members who are never integrated into club activities are most likely to leave no matter what else Rotary has to offer beyond their club.
