NEWS-NOTES-NONSENSE
On Thursday East Alton Park & Rec Superintendent,Tyler Lafferty, was Lori's guest, but stepped up to be our program speaker. He was recently appointed to the position and has hit the ground running.Tyler is a local guy who graduated from Western Illinois University. His work career has taken him to upper Minnesota, Arlington Heights, IL and O'Fallon, IL before returning to home turf. His three pages of things he would like to accomplish include better integration with school programs and creating more non-athletic programs. Tyler's energy and enthusiasm are contagious. Perhaps there's a service project, or two that we could tackle with our local park districts?
MarkSm encouraged everyone to continue selling your Chili Dinner tickets.
ChrisH's aloha wakeup call to PaulH on Thursday morn requesting Paul to chair the November basketball tournament received a groggy yes.Thursday was the first day of fall and ushered in some fall-like weather.
20 members were on hand Thursday. First in included RodC, BillP and WendellR. MarkSm, Prez Robin and BradP were among the last in.
BradL had an interesting experience at Disney World with s'mores. He sez "Enjoy the 'free' marshmallows." After recently attending a Pearl Jam concert Brad was asked by BradP if any of the band mates are eligible for Medicare? Rim shot!
As Operation Blessing celebrates 40 years of community service, let's take a moment to thank RobinK and JoeS for serving as OB board members.
Do you have a favorite Mexican restaurant? For ChrisH and family it's Casa Romero.
We are still missing two vests that disappeared after the Soap Box race.If you picked them up let RickH know.
RickH served as the sub-SAA on Thursday and recruited PattiA to serve as lugmeister. JohnP paid a Happy Fine in honor of the red hot Oiler football team. Trivia Q's about dead presidents, prep sports and Elvis netted mixed results. We did find out that the rapper/actor Ice-T has a higher profile than the icy beverage, first popularized at the 1904 World's Fair in STL. You an oiler fan? pay a $. You an EA-WR grad? Pay another $.
Pasta returned on Thursday, this time in the form of chicken-broccoli Alfredo, accompanied by Rotary g-beans, rolls, salad and cuppies.
Opening duties were handled by Prez Robin, JohnP and RodneyD.
The $151 50-50 rolled after PattiA and AllenH failed to pick the joker. Guest Tyler won the scratcher.

Where can you drive over the Peace Bridge from the U.S. to Canada?

The 5,000-mile-long border between Canada and the United States is the longest in the world, and the Peace Bridge is one of its busiest border crossings. The span passes over the Niagara River, connecting the city of Buffalo, New York, to Fort Erie, Ontario. The bridge opened in 1927, and it was named the Peace Bridge to commemorate 100 years of peaceful relations between the U.S. and Canada. The first bridge to connect the two countries also crosses the Niagara River — it opened in 1855, linking the towns of Niagara Falls, New York, and Niagara Falls, Ontario.

WR members were encouraged to keep selling Rotary Raffle tix.
LoriP introduced the EA program presenter, Adam King.
AlanaY put out a call to all WR members for candy to be used in the Halloween Parade. Float building sessions were soon to be announced.
MarkSp presented a make-up from the McKinzie, TN club, where the meetings were "Always interesting".
RHS students Kylie Davis and Taylor Stratton broke bread at the WR club.
ErinP announced that the EA Macy's fundraiser had a net of $245.
Happy Fines were paid by WR members DonnaK and PaulG.
RhondaB told the EA members that plans were moving forward to build a shelter at the new Hartford Water Park. This is a shared project with the WR and Bethalto clubs.
AlanaY presided at the WR meeting.
PaulH distributed Quarter Auction posters to fellow EA members. He was also looking for help to assist at the event and for donated gift baskets.
GeorgeM introduced the WR program speaker, Denise Schoppet.
DavidA was thanked for his assistance with coordinating the recent WR sponsored blood drive.
The WR club would be ringing bells for the Salvation Army on December 7th.
MarkSp missed the opportunity to collect the EA 50-50 jackpot of $75. No one claimed the WR $435 jackpot.
CherylM was the program chair for the next WR meeting.
