Thursday's program presenter was police officer Lee Brousseau who spoke about the Tyler Timmons Memorial Foundation (TTMF). You may remember that Tyler was killed in the line of duty in October 2021. Friends and family have established a foundation in his name to help recognize his love of public service. In less than a year the foundation has held a successful trivia fundraiser, established a LCCC scholarship and donated to multiple organizations. Check out their Facebook page listed under the foundation name. Their web site will be available in the not to distant future TTMF84.com
Let's flash back to late January when LeonardB was busy raising over $900 from club members from club members to name a Paul Harris Fellow via a club lottery. PaulH was the lucky winner and he chose Ace Printing owner Carolyn Mitchell for the recognition. She was presented with her award earlier this month. Well played by Leonard and Paul and congrats to Carolyn.
What a difference a week makes. Last week BradL was the last to arrive, this week, the first. He was followed by AllenH and DaveA.
Raise your hand if you are surprised to see JohnP sporting his Cubs satin jacket while wearing shorts at Thursday's meeting. I see no hands. Let's consider it an early sign of spring.

LeonardB is off to NOLA so he can cruise the Great River Road back to the Riverbend, making a few historical stops along the way.
GeorgeM was the last to arrive @ 12:15. Proceeding him were RodneyD, LeonardB and JohnP.
SAA LeonardB collected a couple of Happy Fines, wanted to know about some shoes in Granite City and shared some amusing quotes. Everyone who failed to share the love this past week, pay a $.

PaulH is still lamenting the fact that WallyD located his amusement park in central Florida instead of STL.
18 members dined on chicken fried chicken /w gravy, two types of sweet tater casserole, rolls, salad and multiple dessert choices.
Opening duties were handled by Prez Robin,
RickH and BillP.
Our program presenter had two chances to find the joker and claim the $400 jackpot. Our hospitality goes only so far. PaulieG won the scratch-off.

It may not be close enough for Alaskans to see it from their window, but Russia is quite near to the United States — closer than any other countries except for the two we share borders with: Canada and Mexico. Those living in the lower 48 tend to think of Russia, the largest country in the world, as being quite far away, but Big Diomede Island (which belongs to Russia) is only about 2.5 miles away from Little Diomede Island (which is part of Alaska). Because the International Date Line also lies between them, it's also 20 hours later on Big Diomede than it is on Little Diomede — hence their nicknames of Tomorrow Island and Yesterday Island.

Prez JohnP was unable to attend the WR meeting due to an ankle issue that required medical attention.
The EA club heard a presentation about childhood trauma and toxic stress.
EA-WR Junior Rotarians Phillip Tierney and Ryne White attend the WR meeting.
AllenH and MarkV bookended the arrival of the 20 members at the EA meeting. SteveD had a choice of five cards to find the Queen of Hearts and claim the $600 50-50. Four cards remain. TyB let the $31 EA jackpot roll.
Disco Bingo was scheduled for Saturday. JeanK and RhondaB were on the hunt for any unsold tickets.
SherryT reminded everyone that early voting for the April 2nd election had begun.
Flyers for the June 1st Color Run were now available.
JohnP was going to send an email to all WR members requesting feedback about their preference for a Monday or Wednesday meeting.
Archivist RickH told fellow EA members that the first club community project was ringing bells for the Salvation Army in December 1971.
The WR board granted PattiA a 3 month leave of absence.
CherylM shared information with fellow WR members about the proposed 1 cent sales tax increase.

WHY I RIDE TO END POLIO

For more than two decades, my wife and I have been committed to Rotary’s effort to eradicate polio. The roots of my involvement go back to events before I was born. I have two older sisters, and after my second sister was born, my mom had two miscarriages. My parents really wanted a third child, so the doctors prescribed a drug that would help my mom carry a child full-term.
I was born with a few side effects from that drug. The first – a single abdominal kidney – was discovered at the time of my birth. The second, I didn’t discover until years later. In the 1990s my wife and I were having trouble conceiving a child, and we found out the problem was related to the drug my mother had taken.
All this left me asking, “How do I do justice to the life I was given?” I started to find an answer after someone recruited me to join Rotary in 2000. Then my wife, Gretchen, joined Rotary in 2007, and a few months later attended a seminar about The Rotary Foundation. Someone gave a presentation on Rotary’s work of vaccinating children against polio in Nigeria. It struck a chord, and she left convinced she needed to get involved.
Sixteen years later, she’s been on 15 trips to Africa and south-central Asia, including nine trips to Nigeria and the only two Rotary National Immunization Day trips to Chad. These trips have deeply affected both of us, showing us the impact Rotary is having through the PolioPlus campaign. My involvement with polio eradication prior to 2020 consisted of supporting Gretchen and donating to PolioPlus. To continue reading, link here
