On Thursday Tyler Elrbrecht joined us to talk about the Elite Hockey School program and his duties as interim ice rink manager. The school currently has 52 students ranging from grades 5-12. Three teachers provide about 4.5 hours of classroom instruction daily. Each day starts with ice and gym time. Tuition costs $8K per year and includes 250 hours of ice time.
Birthday wishes go out to DianeS-today, RodC on 9-4, DarrenC on 9-9 and BillP on 9-15. Hope everyone has a wonderful natal day!
As noted in LoriP's email from Tuesday, our Youth Exchange candidate, Lilian Bock has been approved for the program by our district committee. With the non-optional expenses ranging up to $,8500 Lilly has been thinking about fund raising ideas. Please be receptive to helping support her dream, either through direct donation or by participating in one of her fundraisers.
Related, see LoriP's email from Thursday about former exchange student Angela Rose. She spent a year in Japan around 2000. Her experience there helped add direction to her life and career. It's hard to forget her describing her experience of being a red headed teen in a sea of dark haired Japanese.

Prez Mark announced that three establishments (including The Airliner) have agreed to participate in the Pints for Polio fundraising event on October 23rd. There may be a couple of additional participating businesses.
Do we have any other club memberEasy Riders besides Prez Mark and GlennB? Step up and identify yourself! They agreed that Thursday was a great day for a ride.
Happy Rotary service anniversaries to-PaulH-44 years, RodC-43 and LoriP-25.
Fox Creek is not one of JoeS's favorite golf courses. He once found himself losing so many balls that he had to resort to using range balls and even then did not finish his round. Yikes.
MarkA announced that our annual cookout will take place at the Belk Park Rotary Pavilion on September 18th. Fellowship @ 5:30, chow @ 6. He will be serving burgers, brats and hot dogs. Everyone is requested to bring a side dish. Games will be played. There is no additional charge beyond your weekly fee.

The SRI (slide right in) crowd featured PattiA, PaulH and MarkA.
How bad are the Cardinals? BillP chose to spend Thursday with his Rotary flock than see the Cards beat the Bucks 4-1.
SAA RickH recruited BillP as the lugmeister. SherryT went hog wild selling little piggy tickets. Four birthdays were celebrated-SherryT, TomS, KristenB and DianeS. We answered 3 out of 4 trivia Q's correctly and Prez Mark instantly knew the bonus trivia answer to the Illinois city that is hardest to pronounce. Can't get much past this group. Bill will be handling the SAA duties this coming Thursday.
We had 22 members dining on chicken teriyaki over rice, mixed veggies, rolls, Hail Caesar salad and cake.
Prez Mark and WendellR couldn't find the joker. The $99 jackpot rolls. LoriP wonthe scratch-off.

PaulH announced that RodC was recovering from a fall at home.

SENSORY GARDEN

During my botany studies in Pune, India, many years ago, I developed a deep interest in how sensory experiences can influence human development – especially for individuals with disabilities. I was fascinated by the idea that human senses are not just ways of perceiving the world but also powerful tools for learning, healing, and connecting. This curiosity stayed with me long after I left the university benches.
Years later, as president of the Rotary Club of Rose Belle (Mauritius) and subsequently immediate past president, I was given the opportunity to lead a community service initiative in the southern region of the island of Mauritius. That opportunity took the shape of a dream project: the development of a sensory garden in the village of Ferney, a location of serene natural beauty surrounded by lush greenery and gentle hills. It was the perfect place for a project that would marry the wonders of nature with the needs of children with disabilities.
What is a sensory garden?
A sensory garden is a thoughtfully designed space that stimulates the five senses – sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell – through a combination of plants, textures, water features, pathways, musical elements, and interactive installations. It is not merely a garden to admire, but a space to experience. For children with disabilities, especially those with sensory processing challenges, autism, or limited mobility, such a garden becomes a therapeutic playground. It helps improve focus, reduce anxiety, support emotional regulation, and foster a connection with nature in a safe and inclusive environment.
With the encouragement of our club members and the support of the wider community, we embarked on this ambitious yet meaningful journey. We were fortunate to secure a generous district grant, which was supplemented by voluntary contributions from our dedicated members.
