CYBER ISSUE
August 6, 2016
NEWS, NOTES & NONSENSE
50-50 KIDS
Pat introduced our speaker, Jane Morris. She is the VP/Operations & information Security Officer for the Bank of Edwardsville. She gave a very helpful presentation about cyber security. Are you prepared and protected? Watch and find out.
For the third week in a row our program presenter was the first to arrive, 21 members followed. Lori, Allen, Rod and Bill led the procession. Arriving before Sherry rang the bell at 12:17 were Fred, Lindsey, Chris 1, Paul and Dave.
The food line featured bourbon chicken, ham, g-beans, apple crisp, sweet tater casserole, salad, cake and jello. I'm exhausted! Mark 1 sang it's praises.
Rod was a $5 scooter. A fine man he is!
Could you live three days without your phone?
Wendell, fresh from his return from customs quarantine, provided a verbal cleft palate project update. It was nice to hear that his/our efforts are still remembered.
Did Paul really have a halo or was that the light from the projector?
Our Chilean exchange student, Daniela Fuentes, will be arriving on Sunday August 21st. Her Delta flight 2309 will arrive in STL from Atlanta about 8:30AM. We will meet in Terminal 1 at Lambert that AM to give her a warm East Alton U.S. of A. welcome. Everyone is encouraged to try and be there. She will then head home with her host family.
Opening duties were provided by Fred, Rhonda and Bill, who was thankful for the humidity.
SAA Bill recruited Fred as his bagger. Did you know that the movie "Groundhog Day" was filmed in Woodstock, IL? I thought so. Once again, we sang a weak rendition of the birthday song to recognize Chris 2's birthday. The Dutch language, Talladega, Olympics and Custer (not his last stand) were the trivia categories. Allen did not think a lot about Ott.
Sherry and Brad 1 (who also had the scratch-off) were the 50-50 card drawers. The $35 jackpot rolled.
That's all from here. Have a fine and dry weekend.

THE VISIONARIES: YOUNG WOMEN IN PERU LEARN TO SEE A FUTURE FOR THEMSELVES
It’s 3 a.m. on a Sunday, and Katheryne Rosa Barazorda Cuellar is up, preparing to work in her mother’s soup stall in the small Peruvian town of Anta, near the Inca capital of Cusco. Smart and seemingly indefatigable, she has a quick smile and infectious laugh.
Rosa is studying to be a chemical engineer, and she has unmistakable talent and drive. She needs them. Poverty, gender bias, and violence darken the lives of many young Peruvian women, including her.
Rosa is lucky, though. Her family supports her. And for the past four years, so has Visionaria Perú – a Rotary Foundation-supported leadership and self-empowerment project in Peru’s Sacred Valley. Colorado Rotarians launched the summer program for adolescent girls with career and community-service aspirations. The project team hopes to generate measurably effective and sustainable empowerment projects worldwide. Peru is the first step on that ambitious journey.
