         NEWS, NOTES & NONSENSE
               NOW I KNOW, IT'S RANDY!
  • Thursday's program was presented by MadCo Sheriff Major Jeff Connor. He spoke about the St. Louis Major Case Squad. He made a great presentation. You have heard the name Major Case Squad, but do you know how they operate? Take a look at  the video to find out.
  • 16 members dined on lasagna, Rotary g-beans in cream of mushroom soup (AKA green bean casserole, welcome back to the '70's), rolls, salad and sugar-free cookies. The catsup and mustard stood down.
  • Mark 3 arrived sans any assisted walking device. His rehab continues. He states "no pain, no gain, nonsense".
  • Wendell spotted a Rotary basketball shirt during his visit to Columbia (the country, not the city).
  • Lori had the opportunity to wear her winter coat, on a Florida beach.
  • Allen was the first to arrive along with daughter Amy and her two sons. Brad 2, Wendell and Bill fleshed out the balance of the early birds. Post-noon arrivals included Brad 1, Chris 1, Paul and Randy.
  • Darren's daughter received an early Christmas present, a newly adopted baby. So wonderful!
  • Chris reports that all is well with the b-ball tournament next month.
  • Lori began the distribution process for the new  work shirts. They look nice. Cory will be including the billing on your quarterly statement. A big thanks to Lori for organizing.
  • Rhonda reminded everyone about Cosmic Bingo on March 24th. We will co-host with the fine folks of the Wood River club. She will be looking for gift baskets, ticket sellers and workers.
  • SAA Lindsey and Chris 2 worked the crowd for $$$.  Paul claims that his birthday is April, not January. Trivia topics included Boy Scouting, German royalty, boxing and ancient computers games. Randy  Lindsey suggested a fine for everyone who failed to bring a guest.
  • If Wendell and Rhonda hung out their shingle as marriage counselors, would you use their services?
  • Rick and Allen refused to pull the joker and claim the $108 50-50. Mark 3 tried his luck with the scratch-off. A wasted effort.
  • Opening duties were performed by Rhonda,  Randy Paul and Brad 2.
  • That's all from here. Have a fine and dry  (and warmer?) weekend.

Riddle-Samuel was out for a walk when it started to rain. He did not have an umbrella and he wasn't wearing a hat. His clothes were soaked, yet not a single hair on his head got wet. How could this happen?

Answer:This man is bald!

January 3, 2002
  • Current members in a leadership position: Prez-elect Joe, Paul Lori, Rod, Mark 1, Dick and Rick
  • It was announced that we would spend the 2002 calendar year trying to raise $35,000 to match a dollar-for-dollar challenge posed by a generous unnamed donor. The $$$ would be used to establish our club foundation
  • We are now meeting at the East Alton United Methodist Church (relocating from the Regions Bank building basement)
  • We presented our Business of the Year award to Bud Fischer (better late than never?)
  • The basketball tournamnet is slated for February 2nd
  • We had nine member sell at least five Entertainment Books. The club sold 146 in total and raised $800
  • Joe won the 50-50
  • We were still looking for a Prez-elect
  • Paul subbed for SAA Dick and fined everyone who arrived before him (that would have been everyone)
  • Do you remember Lonnie Pollard?

THE BOTTOM LINE

Amazon dominates the voice-assistant market, according to market research firm eMarketer. Amazon’s Echo smart speaker has a 70.6 percent share of the market, ahead of Google Home’s 23.8 percent. Use of a voice-enabled device at least once a month is up 130 percent over last year.-Axios.com

Revenue from sports media rights in North America will likely overtake ticket revenue next year for the first time ever. Media rights revenue is expected to come in at $20.1 billion compared with gate revenue at $19.6 billion.
