NEWS-NOTES-NONSENSE
On Thursday HenryS presented a program of humorous readings from the book titled Leaking Laffs Between Pampers and Depends. Some of the topics included things mothers won't say, what children learn on their own, 3 wise women, kitchen rules and mom, a special angel. He also lavished praise on Allen's wife Pam as a classroom wizard.
We had 26 members in the house on
Thursday.
Early arrivals included AllenH, MarkS and BradP.
The buffet entree was cheezy tortellini. Steamed broccoli was available as a side. Loaded salad and patriotic mini-cupcakes rounded out the menu.
MarkS headed to the sweet end of the table as soon as he arrived and suggested that we should start the line from the dessert end of the table. Your thoughts?
DaveA found a pair of sunglasses in the men's room. Who left them there? It seems it was MarkS. As BillP noted, it takes a village.
We will be assisting the Heavenly Peace project the afternoon of August 5th making beds for kids. Put it on your calendar. We start with lunch at Julia's before departing for the workshop.
JoeS has sent his golf clubs ahead with Dean Sweet as he prepares for a golf holiday at Dean's place at The Villages. He's been warned!
Happy Fines were paid by BillP, who thanked MikeK the use of his Cracker Factory penthouse on the 3rd and RobinK, recognizing a birthday, not hers. If you didn't watch a fireworks show on the 4th, pay a $.
MarkS announced that Madison County Transit is not interested in partnering with us on the bike Trail Assist project. He also let us know that the Imagination Library folks have informed him that the Greater St. Louis United Way holds the rights to solicit program participants in Madison County. Mark is contacting the United Way to see if they will allow us to manage the zip codes in our service area.
Opening duties were performed by RobinK, RickH and BillP, who offered thanks for LindseyH serving as prez for life, or something like that.
Among the last to arrive were MikeK, LindseyH, PattiA and GeorgeT.
The opportunity to win the $85 50-50 was missed by LeonardB (who drew his own ticket) and WendellR. DonnaK was the scratch-off winner.

A large crowd gathered at MikeK's Cracker Factory penthouse to watch the Alton fireworks show this past Saturday. In addition to the Alton show we were able to watch about a half-dozen other fireworks shows playing out on the Missouri horizon. A nice bonus! Thanks again to Mike for making his great space available. A special shout-out to LoriP for handling the food and beverage details. With all the additional snacks and treats we had a super grazing spread to feast upon.

There are 63 national parks in the United States, but only one is named after a person: Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The 26th President’s namesake park is located in the North Dakota badlands, and got its name because Roosevelt had a residence there. When Roosevelt served as President from 1901 to 1909, he established more than 200 national parks, forests, wildlife reserves, and monuments across 230 million acres of public land, earning him the nickname of the “conservationist president.” Visited by 600,000 people each year, the park covers more than 70,000 acres with the Little Missouri River flowing through it. It is filled with wildlife and scenic vistas, including the famous Painted Canyon, where the former President’s cabin is located.

Philippines Rotary clubs ‘adopt’ vaccination site

We heal as one. Our communities were brought to a standstill by the COVID-19 pandemic. But now that vaccine is becoming available in the Philippines, we are slowly regaining our strength, confidence, and mobility to carry on our daily tasks.
Rotary members from nine clubs in our city partnered with the Baguio City Health Services to participate in the “Adopt a Vaccination Site” program, which encourages civic groups to provide the necessary support for these centers to keep the vaccination campaign running smoothly.

Different clubs in our district were on a rotation basis to provide at least 5-7 members a day for eight-hour shifts. The members provided crowd control and assisted health workers in administering the vaccine.
Most of the time, the volunteers monitored recipients for any possible adverse reactions to the vaccine during the 15-minute observation period after receiving their dose. Each member received instructions on what to look for in potential side effects. A few members who were physicians also assisted in checking in with individuals post- vaccination.
Our nine club presidents were able to raise nearly $2,000 to purchase vests for frontline health workers, and signs and tarpaulins for the vaccination site located at the University of Baguio Gym, one of two in the city.

Doug was a single guy, living at home with his father and working in the family business. He knew that he would inherit a fortune once his sickly father died.
Doug wanted two things:
• to learn how to invest his inheritance and,
• to find a wife to share his fortune.
