GOOD BYE POLIO, ONE PINT @ A TIME
  • We welcomed a couple of very nice folks from the Alton Little Theater on Thursday. Executive Director Lee Cox and Artistic Director Kevin Frakes, both have a very long associations with the organization. This is ALT's 87th season, and they are having a season, with seating for 60 in the theater that normally accommodates 240. Everyone associated with ALT is working hard to entertain the public in a virus free environment. Prior to the pandemic they had built a season ticket base of 1,000 subscribers. There are still long range plans to relocate to a five acre donated site in Alton. This season still has four shows left. Since there is currently almost no live theater in the STL area why not check out the upcoming production of "Sister Act", directed by Kevin, making its debut on December 11th. They are also actively shopping for some warehouse space to store their props. Head to their website for more info http://www.altonlittletheater.org
  • The regular program schedule has resumed. If you are unable to attend your scheduled presentation meeting let Prez Chris know so he can find a replacement presenter. Remember,  your speaker can attend via Zoom if that is their preference.
  • MarkS reported that our merger committee has sent a revised proposal concerning our foundation to the Wood River club for their consideration.
  • Prez Chris and our merger committee have extended an invite the the Wood River club members to join us for lunch this Thursday, November 5th. We will be gathering in one of the front spaces in Julia's. Plan to spread out and get to know our future fellow Rotarians. Singing? Optional!
  • Allen and Prez Chris want to know what is Wong with our Cardinals?
  • A big THANKS to Rhonda for doing such a great job with our Pints for Polio program last Saturday @ JJ's. She's still selling commemorative pint glasses to area Rotarians. All funds will be donated to RI for the international PolioPlus program, so far about $200.
  • Tonight we will be participating in the Eastgate Halloween event. We will be passing out candy in front of Julia's from 5-8. Fell free to stop by and say hey, bring your kids or grandkids for a handfull of treats.
  • Lunch featured beef 'n noodles, steamed baby carrots, rolls, salad, and toffee layer cake.
  • Rhonda made it to her first Alton-Godfrey club meeting as our ADG, and guess what? She enjoyed it!
  • One table talk thread revolved around what restaurants were still open for inside dining.
  • The Turkey Fund is now @ $232. All $$ collected will be given to Operation Blessing to use for Thanksgiving food purchases. If you want to donate via check, make it payable to Operation Blessing. If you prefer to donate via PayPal of Venmo, Rick will accept payment and convert it to cash for the cause. Find him via phone 618.792.0256 or @john-hooks-7 on Venmo or @JrTheChief on PayPal.
  • Early rain soaked arrivals included Prez Chris, Allen, Rod and Alex. Last in of our 18 included BradP, Rhonda, Bill and MarkV.
  • Our bring a vet program will be at our meeting on November 12th. let Lori know if you are bringing someone.
  • See your Thursday PM email from Lori for a Football Mania update. If you have sold tickets let her know today so that the ticket holder can be entered for week 1. Tickets can still be sold. So far, tickets sold will net us north of $1,000.
  • SAA Sherry  returned and drafted Prez Chris to serve as the designated lugmeister. She had a shameless plug. We sang birthday wished to Wendell. MarkA was busy with a well intentioned masked insult. We aced the trivia Q's. Topics included Disney films, U.S. Capital, National Lampoon Vacation and malls.
  • Opening duties were handled by ChrisH, Alex and Bill who found thanks in the fact that our "liquid sunshine" was not the white stuff.
  • During his last meeting (for a bit) Alex had two tickets drawn for the $49 jackpot, he found no joker joy. Sherry did win a buck on the scratch-off.
  • Have a fine and dry weekend, stay safe. Ciao!

Reshaping Rotary’s future with online learning

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented a challenge to the way Rotarians meet and provide training. But it has also provided an opportunity for Rotary to adapt and innovate.
We’ve seen that district and club leaders have turned to the Learning Center for resources and materials to help convert in-person training events to virtual learning sessions. Between April and June 2020, the number of people using the Learning Center rose from 2,800 per month to 10,000.
Some highlights of how the Learning Center has grown from its August 2018 relaunch to June 2020 include:
Members took more than five times as many courses in June 2020 as they did in August 2018.
The zones with the highest course completion rates are in Asia, Africa, and South America.
Our most popular courses are Getting Started With the Learning Center, Rotary Club Central Resources, and Protecting Personal Data.
The Learning Center is ready to support your online learning future!

Click the session title to access the recording. The recordings play best using the Chrome browser.  You can find presentation materials that accompany the featured breakout sessions in the Learning Center.
You can also access some July breakout session recordings and session resources through the Learning Center under the Convention Breakouts learning topic. Note that not all July sessions are available, and those that are available are in English only.
