         50-50 WINNING SMILES
  • Zeke Jabasch and Benjamin Godfrey presented an interesting program about the Benjamin Godfrey Legacy Trail.  Old Ben has a most interesting history. The video has been posted. Give it a view.
  • Bill is in love with giving the bell a solid whack. Someone order a new gavel.
  • 21 members joined the food cue to dine on lasagna, g-beans, rolls, salad and pie/cake. Our regular server, Karen, was MIA.
  • Sherry and Sandy are reverting to their rogue table visits. Beware, they may be seated next to you next week!!
  • Lori circulated a condolence card for the family of former member Lonnie Pollard.
  • All of our Mark's were in the house. Mark 3 will soon be returning to duty in DC.
  • A few golfers were headed to Lockhaven after the meeting to lose a few balls in the rough.
  • Wendell and Rhonda both had comments about the green tablecloths and then Rod shows up sporting a green polo shirt.
  • Always late? leave earlier! so sayeth swami Mark 1.
  • Prez Bill was sporting his Cardinal shirt, but with no game to attend.
  • Early arriving Sherry was joined by Pat and Benjamin Godfrey. Patty, Rod, and Cory were among the last to arrive. Well before Bill rang the bell at 12:18.
  • SAA Lindsey took the floor with orders from the Prez to 'fleece the flock". She recognized Pat for his 38 years of club service and Sandy's birthday. Dave, Rick and Ty offered shameless plugs. The trivia topics included Saipan, Gone With the Wind, Superbowl, bar codes and the $2 bill.
  • Next week will be the last week to submit your ballot for the 2016-17 program of the year. 17 have been submitted to date. Rick has your ballot.
  • Warning, Lindsey has gone cold turkey on soda.
  • Opening duties were provided by Ty, Mark 3 and Dave.
  • What are the odds that all three 50-50 winners would be from the same table? There was some suspicion that Capt. Godfrey was part of "the fix". Patty, Sandy/Sherry and Lindsey all had their tickets drawn by Godfrey. But wait, Sandy/Sherry went on to draw the fake joker and win the jackpot. Speaking of the jackpot, the value went from $135, to $122 to $125 the past three week. Sandy and Sherry were huddled with Patty after the meeting devising an investment strategy.
  • That's all from here. Have a fine and dry weekend.

New award celebrates success of women in Rotary

By Tory Paxson, Rotary Club of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, USA

On Tuesday, 13 June, we sat down in a cool auditorium in the Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia, for the first annual Women in Rotary Event. The four of us sitting together were all women, all members of my Rotary club, and all at our very first Rotary International Convention. We were unaware of the impact this event was about to have on us. But then, the lights began to dim.

It has only been a short 30 years since the landmark decision to allow women to join Rotary. Being only 27 years of age myself, this reality seems a bit absurd. All of these incredible, passionate and driven women I have met since joining Rotary have only had the space of my lifetime to catch up in leadership roles, in Rotary pride and projects? Really? And yet as lights shone down on our presenters, we felt that 30 years, while short, has been plenty of time for these women to shine.

The event was organized and hosted by district governors Julie Craig and Sieglinde Warren. Among the presenters was Nicholas Krayacich, a distinguished Rotarian from Ontario and spouse of 2016-17 Rotary vice president Jennifer Jones. He  spoke from the perspective of what it is like having two Rotarians in the family and how he and Jennifer support each other. To continue reading, link here http://bit.ly/2u0PCyM

SMILE
A man walked into a bar, sat down, and ordered a beer.

As he sipped the beer, he heard a voice say, "Nice

tie." Looking around, he saw that the bar was empty

except for him and the bartender. A few sips later,

another voice said, "Beautiful shirt." At this, the

man calls the bartender over. "Say, I must be losing

my mind," he tells him. "I keep hearing these voices

say nice things, and there is not a soul in here but

us." "It's the peanuts," explains the bartender,

indicating a dish on the bar. "The peanuts?" "That's

right, the peanuts--they're complementary."
