NEW MEMBER GLENN WELCOMED BY RODNEY
NEWS-NOTES-NONSENSE
On Thursday District Governor Dan O'Brian joined us to share his thoughts and observations about Rotary. Dan is a member of the Carlinville club and began his slide presentation he titled Pathway to Service, by telling us about Gustave Loehr, originally from Carlinville and the mostly forgotten member of Paul Harris's founding group. He related a story that took place in 1987 when his job took him to D.C. Dan happened to visit the Supreme Court on there same day that the justices were hearing the case of Rotary International vs Duarte, CA Rotary club.The court eventually ruled that RI could no longer deny membership to women. Dan also reviewed district foundation goals, membership issues, how we can assist in reaching his goals and donned his western hat to promote the 2025 RI convention in Calgary and reminded us that the 2030 convention will be in Chicago.

WE STILL NEED GOLFERS-IF YOU KNOW OF SINGLE GOLFERS (OR A TEAM) WANTING TO PLAY, LET JOE KNOW. HE WILL PLACE THEM WITH A TEAM. Joe also noted that you can score a free lunch and/or a steak dinner if you are willing to help in the 11-noon hour and/or around 5PM.
Here are the details about our upcoming club foundation golf scramble on October 25th. Registration starts @ 11 with a shotgun start @ noon. A foursome will cost $400 and include a BBQ lunch and steak dinner. There are five sponsorship levels available from $100 to $1000. He then distributed flyers and encouraged everyone to share them with the golfers you know, friends, family and social media. It's going to be a fun day on a beautiful late October Friday. All proceeds will be used for community enhancement with a goal of making a $15,000 contribution every other year. Make checks payable to our legal name East Alton Rotary Club Foundation. All checks need to go through JoeS so that all sponsorships and teams are correctly recognized. Thanks in advance for your support.
A big THANK YOU to everyone who assisted with our Chili Dinner, especially to MarkSm for serving as the head chili slinger and to SherryT for preparing the Airliner chili.

SherryT reminded everyone that starting Monday everyone can vote at the township office. Voting continues for two weeks, 8:30-4:30.
The slide right in crowd included WendellR, MikeK and PaulH.
SAA Patti fined folks for not sporting a name badge and not signing-up for our Chili Dinner and/or golf tournament.
We had 18 members dining on sliced ham, rice casserole, Rotary g-beans, rolls, mexi salad, potato salad and cake.
SandyS/SherryT and Allen each looked for the elusive joker. There's 13 cards left. WendellR won the scratch-off.

In 1884, New York attorney Charles E. Rushmore was reviewing the legal titles of properties in the Black Hills when he asked a local guide about the name of a granite outcropping. The guide said, “Never had a name, but from now on we'll call it Rushmore.” This turned out to be incorrect, as the sacred mountain had two different Lakota names, but the Mount Rushmore name stuck.

The EA club heard a presentation about the 7 C's of credit.

The club foundation balance was reported at $78,000, with $8,100 pledged to current scholarship students.
Thanks were offered to GeorgeT and PattiA for their assistance with the Fall Festival event.

The EA club was exploring the sponsorship of a long term exchange student.
EA-WR Junior Rotarians Sandy Pham and Marybeth St. Peters broke bread with WR members.
Everything was a go for the Chili Supper.
A successful Adopt A Highway cleanup day was recently held on Madison Avenue.

SCOTT LEVAN
Scott is an East Alton-Wood River High School graduate before receiving a double major Bachelor Degree in Business Administration and Economics (with a minor in Psychology) from Blackburn College in Carlinville.
He has been officiating high school sports Football, Volleyball and Softball) through the IHSA, having just received a 40 year recognition.
He is currently employed at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where he began in December of 1985, and is presently the office manager and insurance specialist as well as serving as a Reserve Deputy Coroner for Madison County since 1987.
He has four children, Jared, Josh (Alexis), Jessica and Jacob.
Scott has served two separate times as Club President (Wood River) and has been on the board for multiple terms, and is a Paul Harris Fellow.
