                PREZ PATTY'S BIG BANG

  • There's no noon meeting the next couple of weeks, see you again on July 11th. Have a great 4th of July holiday!
  • Look for the next Rotary Banner on July 13th.
  • ChrisH introduced program presenter Patrick McRae, Madison County Deputy Treasurer. His office collects about $430 million in county property taxes each year and distributes them to 220 taxing bodies. Taxes are distributed every 30 days. Patrick pointed out that continuing automation has made tax collecting and distribution more efficient. Did you know that there are only two counties in Illinois that allow four payment windows rather than the more common two. In a typical year anywhere from 1500-2000 parcels wind up being "sold" for delinquent taxes.
  • Thursday's buffet offered the "yin" of fried chicken with the "yang" of floating mixed veggies. Also available were marshmallow sweet taters, rolls, salad, cookies and pound cake with apple topping.
  • Lindsey announced that she is changing jobs and will be taking a leave of absence, with the hope of being able to return at some point in the future. She's been an outstanding member and will be missed. Only the best for her! That being said, Prez Patty requested members to step up and cover our presidential vacancy over the next year. Once the dust settled, BradL will be our president of record with direct support from Bill and Patty. We thank these fine past and present president's for stepping up to steer our good ship away from the shallows.
  • Lori has your packet of 15 Baseball Mania tickets, six packets are still looking for a home. Hardcopy and online sales options are available. There will be at least one $10 winner per week. Sell the ticket, submit the $$ and purchaser info to Lori then wait for the check in the mail.
  • Prez Patty had a great time trash picking earlier this month. A win-win type of event.
  • There are plans afoot to bring back a rotary PM social event. Grafton? The new Eastgate restaurant? Your thoughts?? Let Patty know.
  • Birthday wishes to Sandy on July 2nd and Allen on July 4th.
  • Pat and Dick are each celebrating 40 years of club membership. Well played gents!
  • Wendell is receiving daily video updates from Columbia. He's off to investigate, and sip some warm beer.
  • BradL introduced his guest  Terry.
  • Board members represented the early arrivals-ChrisL, Lori, Prez Patty, Paul and Queenie. Joe and Randy arrived at 12:14, preceded by Andrew and Rhonda.
  • If you ever get the chance, tried fried Nutella, usually served with a crispy coating. Yumee!
  • Opening duties were deftly handled by Rhonda, Matt and Bill, who expressed dismay for the overexposure of "Gloria". A few dissenting comments were served up in response.
  • Prez Patty returned to step behind the podium for her last noon meeting. Her aggressive bell ringing brought forth a number of comments.
  • Our Installation Dinner is scheduled for this coming Thursday. Fellowship starts  @ 5, dinner at 5:30.
  • SAA Queenie drafted Randy to served as the "deputy treasurer". MarkS and Paul offered standing o's, Rick had an announcement. Not here last week? Pay a $. Not stepping up to serve as a rotating president? Pay a $. We celebrated Alex's birthday. Trivia topics included the Spanish Civil War, fingernail growth, dots on dice and Chopin.
  • Prez Patty reminded everyone that all members are welcome to attend board meetings, usually held after the last noon meeting of the month. Want to get something off your chest? Got an idea? Let our board know.
  • The 50-50 proceedings returned to normal, which means that neither Prez Patty or Allen claimed the $6 jackpot. Lori received the scratch-off.
  • That's it, have a fine and dry weekend. Ciao!

Rotary club models enhance connections

By Jessie Harman, chair of the Rotary International Membership Committee and a member of the Rotary Club of Wendouree Breakfast, Victoria, Australia

Rotary’s new strategic plan is underpinned by four key priorities – to increase our impact, expand our reach, enhance participant engagement, and increase our ability to adapt. The emergence of new club models is evidence that Rotary clubs and districts are working actively to advance these priorities.
These new club models represent an opportunity to connect with a more diverse group of individuals – particularly those who are unable or unwilling to join our traditional clubs. While new club models have been emerging for some time, the 2016 Council on Legislation decision to promote flexibility and innovation has arguably accelerated their development.
At the present time, it’s possible to recognize at least seven different types of clubs:
Traditional clubs – at the heart of Rotary: a group of professionals and aspiring leaders who meet regularly for service, connections and personal growth
Satellite clubs – sponsored by a traditional club, but with their own meetings, projects, bylaws and board
E-Clubs – that meet exclusively online
Passport clubs – that allow members to attend other Rotary club meetings and service projects, so long as they attend a specified number of meetings in their own club
Corporate clubs – whose members are employed by the same employer, but who have different roles in their workplace
Cause-based clubs – whose members share a passion for a particular cause and whose service projects and activities center around that cause, and
Rotaract clubs – sponsored by Rotary clubs, whose members are aged between 18 and 30 and who meet together for service, friendship, and connections
Amid this landscape there are also hybrids of these types – adding further to the diversity of Rotary, and there can be little doubt that new club models will continue to emerge – including the possibility of a model of participation which is not club-based.
Development of new club models and new ways to engage with Rotary is a healthy sign – indeed some would say a critical ingredient – of our ongoing sustainability and success. Our challenge is to continue to evolve – to meet the needs of our members and our communities and to ensure Rotary stays relevant, innovative, and engaging long into the future.
