NEWS-NOTES-NONSENSE
On Thursday Prez Bill presented a 13 question Rotary Global History Quiz. It turns out we may not know as much about Rotary as we think we do. For example, did you know that Paul Harris held jobs as a cowboy, desk clerk, marble salesman, actor, merchant seaman and fruit picker between 1891 and 1896? We thought so.
We need members to serve as chair for two upcoming events, the Soap Box race on September 7th and our Chili Dinner on October 18th. Interested? Let LoriP know. Thanks for stepping up!

RodneyD reminded everyone that he will be traveling to Africa next month on a fact finding mission about a possible medical facility sponsorship.
Our foundation board is proposing an expansion of its responsibilities to include a $15,000 donation toward a qualified project in East Alton, Wood River and Roxana/WR Township starting in 2026. The donation would be made every other year and rotate between the three areas. The funding would be generated from two annual fundraisers, the first of these will be a golf tournament @ Belk on October 25th.

Prez Bill opened the meeting with a BIG bang!
The Slide Right In (SRI) buffet crowd featured-PaulH, BradP, WendellR, JohnP and ChrisH.
SAA Patti fined everyone a $ who had exposed knees, which turned out to be just about everyone but JoeS. JohnP announced that he just celebrated his 71st natal day.
Opening duties were aptly handled by WendellR, MarkSm and RodneyD.
15 members dined on mostaccioli, corn, rolls, salad and cookies.
The 50-50 jackpot was unclaimed by JohnP, MarkA and MarkSm.

Only child of Raymond and Bernice Silkwood. My dad died when I was 15 – my mom was disabled and didn’t work. I am a product of good democratic policy. My mom and dad had 8th grade educations. My dad had his heart attack at his job at Laclede Steel (Steelworker Union Member) – he was 52.
I have been invited to speak at various events including Growth Association, service clubs, and fundraisers.
I am a lousy golfer that enjoys playing despite my skill level.
I enjoy live music.
I like most sports but particularly baseball, hockey and golf.

If you can’t decide on one national sport, why not pick two? That’s exactly what Canada did after a decades-long disagreement between proponents of two very different games: ice hockey and lacrosse. In 1994, the National Sports of Canada Act declared ice hockey the national winter sport and lacrosse the national summer sport.

TheEA club heard a credit card fraud presentation from Greg Worthen with the First Mid-American Credit Union.
New DG Gordon Jumper would visit the WR club on July 18th.
The EA club welcomed former long-term exchange student Angela Rose. She spent her year in Japan and was now working as a Japanese interpreter for a electronics company in North Carolina.
The WR club offered condolences to the family of former club president Keith Toby (1978-79).
Not one member of the EA club claimed French ancestry on Bastile Day. Probably because of the fine involved.
New WR club officers included Prez ScottL, GeorgeM and GeorgeT.
PaulH and RickH asked the speaker a question after 1PM, they paid a $.
Four students received their scholarship checks at the WR meeting.
MarkV introduced his business partner.
GeorgeM and GeorgeT received Presidential Awards of Appreciation.
CoryG received his 5 year membership certificate from PaulH.
Perfect attendance certificates were awarded to DaveA, TommieM and JohnP.
The WR club made a $500 donation to the Joplin Tornado Relief fund.
